This morning I purchased a large zoa. When I got it home, one of the polyps fell off (about 50 total). I have a 30 gallon (next month starting a much larger tank) and a 5 gallon nano style tank. I took the polyp that fell off and put it in the small tank where I have two other small frags on the other side. After aclimating it in a beer glass, I tried to place it in the nano tank, but it kept floating around and drifting under rocks. I used a very small piece of rock rubble to hold it down in for a while. About 6 hours later it started to open up. What else can I do to help it? It seems to be off to a good start. The main coral colony is doing great in the 30.

Gel super glue will hold it where you want it. Thats what most people use to frag zoas.

Any super glue? Sorry, I'm new to reef keeping and don't want to get something that messes with Ph, especially in such a small tank.

Ok, another stupid question. Do I just get a tiny piece of live rock and glue it to that then re-submerge it? I'm just wanting to be careful.

What I do is I take a small bowl of tank water glue the zoa to the frag plug, tile, or small rock then place it in the bowl of tank water for 3 min or so then I put it on my frag rack or at the bottom of my tank with less flow until the next day then place it in a different area of the tank or keep it where it is lol

Yes, just the brand Name Super Glue and the Gel :0) The Gel works the best as it's thicker. With just 1 polyp though you could use the regular Super Glue...it will be runny so be careful :0) Just dab the polyp's base on a towel/paper towel to dry it and then hold the polyp upright until it stands on its own. Either do as Army dog suggests or just put it in a the tank where it will receive very little flow and moderate light. When you think it's ready to get/handle more flow , then move it :0) Gel works the "best" just because it is thicker...easier for the coral to adhere to the mounting . Dollar General sells like Shayna said :0) So does Menards...don't know if Lowe's and Home Depot carries it...

and LC, no question about reefing is Stupid! All of us had to learn just like you :0) Better to ask away than to be sorry or spend unnecessarily! We all are here to help, share and learn even if we've been in the hobby for years :0) This is a hobby that is constantly evolving :=) If it is at all possible, go to Fall Fest on November 9th! Great buys on corals, equipment, books, etc and Great Speakers! Meet member and talk tanks, ask questions, etc!! You'll love it!!

So far so good. He is standing up and open in a low flow area right now. He appears as healthy as the main colony. I'm just going to leave him alone for a while and see if he will eventually propagate and start a new colony for me!

Another trick is to put the new frag, and rock its glued to, in a shot glass, then place both in the aquarium to keep the flow super low and the frag from getting lost if it gels itself off.
I've had good luck with this method fragging ricordia.
Sounds like you've got it though. Nice Work.
