Was out at PIPAC today for my weekly tank maintenance and observed a pair of about the five three stripe damsels doin the dance on the back wall of the tank.  Sure enough on closer examination I could clearly see a patch of eggs on the back wall.  Pretty amazing just to sit back and watch them do there thing.  I gues with all the fish breeding goin on Ive still never heard of anyone doing it with Damsels.  Unfortunatly it will be next to impossible to catch the pair in such a big tank.  I'll see how it goes.  Maybee they will still be active around time for the tank tour.

Two reasons people dont raise them.

They are $5 retail, so it would cost more to raise them then you can sell them for.

The larvae are half the size of clownfish larvae, so very hard to get started eating.

You can catch them with the overflow if you want to try & raise them, they hatch 4 days after they lay the nest within a couple hours of darkness.

Sweet man...whats PIPAC? I don't know if they're commonly bred or not. They're certainly easy enough to breed and rear, just like clownfish. But due to their low commercial value I don't know if anybody is committed to breeding them. It's just like FW fish farms, lots of low value fish in low cost facilities multiplied by acres and acres, and the problem of profitability quickly becomes a problem of scale. Not to mention variety is key to making and maintaining accounts.

Striped damsels are really cool looking I think! I saw this picture in Corals (husbandry, selection and natural history) by Eric Borneman where this group of three stripe damsels are hosting to a purple stag acropora and the background is just entirely blue, the mix of colors was purely mind blowing!!! Very cool. Just goes to show that some species are totally underrated!
