Got it too but that’s why I always use paypal if possible or Credit cards online or anywhere for that matter. NEVER use DEBT cards or Checking account most merchants save your card info in their systems. Much harder to get money back if it does disappear from your checking account. CC all it usually takes is a chargeback and a new account number, and paypal no personal account info is exchanged.

THE WAY THIS WORLD WORKS IS THE THIEVES ARE ALWAYS 1 STEP AHEAD OF THE SECURITY....

They have taken security measures since then.
I received a letter, only name & addresses were hacked they did not have access to complete credit card numbers...So the letter states. In which by using PayPal they could have gotten that info as well...

Bumping this thread. My e-mail account password got hacked yesterday, it was the same e-mail account that I had used for BRS and while the password was not the same as the BRS one, it was similar. Close enough to get guessed with brute force if the BRS one was known.

The result was that while I was on the golf course yesterday, I received 6000+ notifications from my e-mail provider that my maximum allowable outgoing messages per hour had been exceeded. They attempted to send well over 14,000 emails before I was able to get back to my PC and change my password. Since then, the influx of "rejection" messages from various providers (for non-existent e-mail recipients, etc) has abated. But likely well over 2000 messages made it through, which does wonders for my spam rating I'm sure.

If you ever had a BRS account:

    1) change all of your passwords, everywhere, to ones that are completely different - especially for account that use the same e-mail address that you used for your BRS account
    2) take them up on that credit monitoring offer
    3) if you got the letter but the offer has expired, you can call BRS and they will issue you another letter

PS I can't say that the hack was a result of the BRS hack...so I'm changing all my passwords no matter what

While websites don't typically use two-step verification, e-mail accounts such as Hotmail/Live/MSN/Outlook and Gmail do. I would suggest using the added protection offered by two-step verification wherever possible.
