Hey since im building my new 55gal, I thought it would be fun to video most of what i was doing. So if anyone else would like to see the progress, I will be adding videos continually throughout the build. Please forgive my lack of camera skills /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif

zomgz, drilling the tank was an entertaining video....oh, and gl with your skimmer issue, I would suggest adding a side door to teh bottom stand so u can get to it from the side and can remove it without moving the whole stand.

Were you trying to drill the tank with a dremel?

Uhhhm, for record. MOST 55 gallon tanks ARE tempered. I'm surprised no one mentioned that before trying to drill it.

It was mentioned. I was also informed by the person who had it before me that it probably wasnt tempered. its no big deal. 30$ for a new piece of glass. was worried about the seal on the bottom anyway so no i can just resilicone

well thats a bummer, well i would seriously think about getting a 75g now youve modded your stand with just a little more mod it would hold a 75g then use 55g for a sump

Ditto, and get one that's reef ready with built in overflows...
55's are a ***** to work with, they are just too narrow.
Have you ever re-sealed a tank?  It's a complete pain in the ***.

Hmm man it is easy! I have resealed tons of tanks there realy is nothing to it as long as you have a method. Remove the bulk of the old seal with your first blade then switch to a new one to get what you missed. Clean glass with alcohol mask off the corners ( I like to go about a 1/4 to 3/8 from the corner on each side ) then run a bead of silicone wet finger press the seal in then remove the tape. That's all there is to it!

I would LOVE to do a 75gal tank, but im on a small budget. this is my parents project, im just putting it together for them. its basicly an excuse for me to have a tank that i dont have to pay for /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/hybrid//emoticons/smile.gif

Hey Sam, I couldn't help notice there wasn't any overflow box(unless I missed it). Are you planning on getting a hang-on-back overflow box atleast and having a sump of some sort? If you skip to 0:50 you can see the film on the surface of the water that tanks with no overflow box to skim it off have. It can cause big problems in gas exchange, not a good idea in the long run...

    Just my 2 cents.

right now i just have a bak pak on it. i was hoping a skimmer would be ok, but i dont have any experience with a bigger tank. i did notice the film earlier tonight. an overflow box is needed for that? could i raise the pump on the skimmer to the surface and have it skim it off?

    Hey guys,
Its been a little while since I did an update on tanks. I just got finished setting up what i brought home from springfest. I'm pretty busy tonight, but will take video of the 37g and the 75g and have it up by tommarow!
