    Hello all,

Well I have blown out to of my ABS bulkheads I got AC&C. Both have cracked and I had to replace them. I am in the hunt for some better ones. Currently I bought some for Hung at Sea of Marvel and like them, but they are thread on the top end of the bulkhead and for my return that's fine, but for my overflow I want slip fit. Anyway I have to use the ABS because its a manufacturer cut and the Sch 80 will not fit them and I just don't want to have to do anything to make them fit.

Anyway let me know what's on your minds. Thanks

I currently have a slow leaker over my sump from the return so I am going to order in the next week or so.

    Thanks

    KP

Thats where I will buy mine from too. Did you get Slip x Slip or Slip x Thread or Thread to Slip or Thread to thread?

What size do you need KP? I have two 1 inch, 1 is slip and slip the other is thread and slip. Preference to me depends on it your worried about future tear downs as far as being able to take it apart or it being permanent.

Just want to put this out there, AC&C doesn't make bulkheads, they are from BRS.

Yeah sorry about that John. I mean bought it from AC&C. Of course they don't make ABS bulkheads them selves.

I don't think the ones I bought for the store are from BRS, because I have two I did buy from BRS and they are different.

I don't know where they would of come from then Kyle, I know I've only ordered from BRS for store stock. This is the first time I've heard of a BH blowing out, that sucks! I hope it didn't do any damage. GL!

Maybe I hot a few bad ones. These are the first time I have ever had an issue with Bulkheads. No damages. Luckily I seen a leak and took it a part and replaced it. All is good and I now think I better put in a leak detection on my apex.

most ABS bulkheads are pretty much the same, and unfortunately those of us with factory drilled tanks are stuck using them. Like John said the ones at AC&C are the same thing you get from BRS. All my bulkheads are from AC&C and no problems here. I would look more into how they are installed, and how the plumbing is hanging off of them for the reason they failed. Its not going to take much stress to crack them. Simply over tightening them will certainly do it. Having plumbing hanging off them and torquing them sideways would be another cause of failure. Sections of flex PVC to absorb vibrations as well as securing the plumbing so the bulkheads aren't taking the weight would be another step to take during the rework.

Thanks for the input, but I am sure they are not all made the same. BRS video said that ABS are known for a few issues as I have discribes. I would like to go with Sch 80, but can't with my holes. I have two differant kinds at the moment and I don't know, but one is much more hevey duty then the other. The ABS plastic looks much differant along with the nut that goes on it. I will take some pictures when I get some time tonight as I am doing water change and post them later if I don't forget.

Any way that being said I am going to put some suport under them, but the one that broke was not very tight at all. I first tighed it up again with my hand then when it still leaked I took to a pair of channel locks and turned it about a 1/16 of a turn then another and it cracked and fell down. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/sad.gif I think it was just a bad bulkhead. Maybe from sitting around or something maybe just not sure.

The one that cracked was the one on my return and hooked up using the flex type pipe. I would sure hope that these bulkheads could take more stress then what you are discribing, but I am not taking any chances this time. I am going to rerun the whole system when I am on vacation the 1st of Jan. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif

The other one on my overflow side was the line I was bumping as I was fixing it. Its the opposite side that is the isue now and looked to have been leaking a while before I got to it. I am sure I may have stressed it a bit, but these things are made to get stressed a little I would think.

So looks like as I thought these ABS are the way to go, but what did you have again installed David? Slip x slip?

I need the 1" slip x slip! Just can't find the correct fittings for the threaded to the inside of the tank to my 1 1/2 pvc overflow.

Not stepping on acc's toes but i had 2 junk 1" s x s from them as well. Bought some from brs and all was fine. Maybe it was just a bad batch or something? Seeing someone else with the same problem makes me think that. And the ones from brs were different so again i think it was a junk batch.
