180 is up and filled. I hard plumbed the return but haven't been able to run it yet because both the larger bulkheads that run to the sump leak. I haND tightened them but didn't work. I've never had this issue before. Not sure what to do.

Did you make sure there was no debris around the overflow holes? You could have sand or something under the gasket making it not seal. That or its not tight enough. If its not either one of those I would check the bulkheads for cracks. Ive had bulkheads crack in moves before. Are they slip or thread bulkheads?

I had one that I could never get to stop dripping on my 55. I lowered the water level unscrewed the bulkhead and put a thin bead of silicone on it. I put it back together let it sit with the lower water level for a week and then filled it back up. It never leaked again.

Make sure the gaskets are sandwiched between the bulkhead flange and glass. If they are between the nut and glass then water can leak thru the threads.

    1 - Always deburr bulkheads.
2 - always razor blade glass or plastic blade acrylic around hole.
3 - always acetone all contact surfaces.

If you dont want to drain tank You can do this live !!without sand!!
Get a bucket under bulkhead, release retainer. Get silicone in a squeeze tube. Get down by the bulkhead and get silicone between glass and gasket and gasket and flange. Resecure retainer, dry everything off and inspect. You cannot just place silicone around the flange, the silicone will release over time. Also silicone will function underwater as it is not water based.

If bulkheads are hard to get to you will have to drain system

Another note: some people severly disagree with placing silicon. I had the same problem you did and said never again. Place a very thin film of silicon and never look back. The ABS material is $hit and you can't wrench it and that thin little rubber gasket can't handle little defects.

Yea I'm gonna pay someone to do it today. And I'm gonna pay from here on out. I'm just not good at do it yourself stuff and boy have I made a mess. I've spent 10 hours on something someone else can do in an hour. I hard plumbed the returns and with my luck that will be the next to go wrong when everything is turned on.

It was a bad bulkhead. Everything is finally up and going.
