unfortuneatly, many of the things you would use to treat ich often has bad effects on inverts and coral. maybe you can get a 5gal bucket or something along that line to use as a qt?

I know there will be alot of ppl that disagree w this, and I normally wouldnt say use chemicals directly in the tank itself BUT.... I treated a regal blue and yellow tang that were both pretty sick, I mean ick... Its called "No Sick Fish" and I bought it from a LFS here in DSM for $60 for a tiny little bottle but I called the actual guy who makes it and talked to him for an hour b4 I bought it. of course the ppl who make it wont say it wontl kill your coral, they want to sell thier product but this guy seemed sincere and he sold me over the phone from a few hundred miles away.... think they in MN... My tank was VERY sps loaded along with alot of other corals, inverts, and all you can think of and not a single zoa, sps polyp or any of the many things in thier changed a bit or closed or look any different. the website is nosickfish.com. Like I said normally chem directly in the tank is not a good idea and all the long time reefers will prob disagree and they kno better than me, but id use this again any day if my fish get ich again. Now the chemiclean stuff for cyno bacteria, DONT PUT THAT IN YOUR TANK... LOL I learned the hard way.

Joel theory says it best, if you cant test it or monitor it, dont add it to your tank BUT, I swear by this stuff and still have the bottle in my fridge.... I dont know whats in your tank coral wise but I didnt have a QT either and went this route on a limb bcuz my fish were in so much pain I felt bad and had to do sumthing fast.... It works for real.... check out the website and call the dude who designed it. Hes cool as hell and more than happy to explain how it works and he convinced me its coral and invert safe so I did it.... Would do it again today if I had to. if you were in DSM id let you use it, this tiny bottle treats 350 gallons.

Go to the website and call the number.... Just hear the guy out... Its not a huge company, its a guy who loves the hobby like we do and found a cure to a few things and is no getting rich off it. my fish dont even have ich and ill put it in my tank for the next 7 days for fun... lol Wish you were closer... I swear to god I would. the **** is no joke. I wouldnt suggest it if it was junk. how big is your tank and whats it stocked with coral wise??? Dont need a list but rough idea...

Softys are bulletproof! Ask snowman82 aka Chris... Softies can live in fresh water for a few days and be fine. if you dont have sps or lps and insist on no chem treatment, you can do the slow lowering of the salinity thing right in your tank. I wouldnt go below 1.020 or .021 for the coral sake but from what I saw from softies in freshwater levels, fish and softies pull out of it just fine. Its better if you do it over a slow period of time. Im no pro, just bored and sharing what others have learned me when I was in your shoes... Powder blues and Regal tangs both very cool fish, but VERY ich prone. Ive even read that 99% of Regals have one strain of ich or another at all times but thier immune system keeps it under the skin and you dont notice it but its there all or most of the time. Dont know how true it was but I read that. If you want to have those types of fish you can do one of two things, set up a QT tank and keep it running bcuz you will need it again in the future again and again as the ich is in the water, substrate, rock and all over the tank and with any fish in there it can live and will not go away so you can keep QTing him,,,, OR you can just trust some stranger that has learned a thing or two either the hard way or listening to other strangers and finding out it works. Others may have better ideas. Good luck. Beautiful fish just hard to keep that damn ick away.

correction on above.... The ich will go away with no fish in there to host itself on.... Thats one of the reasons for the QT tank. I forget how many weeks it takes but there is an estimated time that all strains will die off after x amount of time with no fish to host itself on. If one fish has it, there is a solid chance it can spread. There are multiple types of ich and some are way more aggresive and some can be rinsed off with a freshwater dip. Take what ive said, do your homework on the internet and share what worked for you. Good luck man.

yeah my salinity was barely registering in my tank. i will say my actual softies didn't make it, i had a couple toadstools that died but most my Zoa's made it through and all my fish, my crabs and snails all died though. so i wouldn't recommend doing it in your tank /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/wink.gif haha mine as accidental. i would definately have a QT handy for those type of fish. that would be the safest bet.
