Yes, this is about as off topic as it gets!
I am wondering if anyone has had any experience with buying frozen rats online. I am feeding three snakes, and it gets pretty spendy pretty fast. Rodentpro.com looks pretty good. Their XXL (~450grm) rats are on sale and after shipping are $3 a pop, assuming I buy 26 at a time. Anyone had any experience with this site, or know of a place locally that even comes close to those prices? Back in California I would just bring rats home from school since we bred them at an embryology lab. We would have culled breeders by the dozens every month, so it was free food for my snakes! Not so lucky now /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/sad.gif For those wondering, I'd be putting these rats in a mini freezer that I got solely for the rats. Not going to be keeping rats on top of my steaks and chicken in my main freezer! LOL!

I am pretty sure I ordered from Rodent Pro back in the day along with many others. That is the only place that sticks out right now though. If I remember right shipping can be a little pricey so I always ordered as much as I could pack into my freezer but I was also feeding 15 or so snakes at the time.

Yeah, shipping is the killer. Their XXL rats are $1.25 a pop right now. 26 fits in a box, which is $78 shipped, leaving them at $3 a rat. Unfortunately it doesn't get any cheaper buying more since they do it per box.

I know there is someone that posts on craigslist from time to time and I think that is where we got some of our starter rats from. Another guy and I had a small shed converted into a rat breeding facility. I think we had large concrete mixing pans into one rack and then we had a small setup on the side for mice. Mice are horrible to breed though. Rats keep popping them out like it is there job but be prepared for the odors. I had a small setup prior to the setup in the shed. It was in the basement and consisted of 2 or 3 concrete mixing pan rack system. I had to keep up on the bedding otherwise it got smelly quick. Other then that there is little to do to take care of them. The top screen of the rack held all of their food and I installed a gravity fed water system with a 5 gallon bucket reservoir.
