Do you guys run both reactors? My tank is now mostly SPS and I have to really crank up my CaRx to keep up with demand. (140 bubbles/min and 4.5 oz of effluent/min) I understand the CaRx should be used to supply a steady, stable supply of calcium. And then maybe you should use a KalkRx with your top off to supply the main source of calcium. Is this correct? Does anyone run both?

I always read it was one or the other...that there was no need for both. That's from reading, not practical knowledge.

I kinda thought that too but lately I have been hearing you if you run your CaRx all the time it will lower your ph and you can use the Kalc to keep it in check.

Also, I wrote the manufacturer of my calcrx and they said I should use Kalk to feed the tank and the CalcRx to keep it all balanced.

Further, I noticed JJ runs a CalcRx and a KalkRx. If I read it right he has a solonoid which will shut one or the other down depending on where the ph is.

Well, I don't think he does anymore. From what I've heard, he doesn't have an SPS tank anymore. Not sure why, and not confirmed, just rumor.

I would seriously consider turning that ca rx down before it blows up. You shouldnt need any more that 20 to 30 bubbles a min with a steady drip of 10 to 20 a min. If your feeding the tank both a low ph effluent and a high effluent they will fight each other. I would be worried about the pressure inside that reactor, at 140 bubbles a min it has to be sky high which could cause some major damage if it blows.

I used to run them in conjunction with each other and didn't have any problems. You might also want to look at different brands of salt with higher levels of calcium in it. Or you could buy some calcium additive from Bulk Reef Supply to boost new water. To be honest, you have a good problem because it means your tank is doing well! /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif

I'm not in the least bit worried about this....Nothing is going to blow up. Are you suggesting my high bubble count is going to blow up the system? What? In my system I have a ton of water and a lot of SPS. To keep up with the demand I need to run my CaRx on superdrive....well above the parameters that you have described. The way I figure it, as long as the ph of the chamber is between 6.5-7.0 you can run as much or little water through the reactor as you need to. Am I way off base here?
