I need a nicer camera, my Elf is about as useful as my Blackberry. I want to take beautiful pictures of my reef as I see others posting and also be able to use it for the kids and stuff. I have a reasonable  buget any suggestions? Thanks.

I've heard a lot of good things about the Nikon cameras, but why not just wait until after Spring Fest. You'll get a chance to talk to Gary Parr and I'm sure he can give you some great advice. He's coming to do a presentation on reef photography. Here's a link to his photo gallery. AMAZING photos in there... http://www.gparr.com/photos/index.php?cat=10001

Defintally get a Nikkon, I just sold mine to Gered and he loves it, and I loved it. Just time to upgrade come tax time, and a deal came along.

Or he could get advice from current owners and what they like/dislike about their camera.... Then 6-7 months from now when we have a Spring Fest he could ask how to take BETTER pictures with his camera.
I have a Cannon XTI and I think it's great... Any Nikon or Cannon DSLR would take great pics of anything an average picture taker would want.  The only downside is they are bulky compaired to point and shoots.  Maybe others who have those will give opinions if you like the smaller size

I got the new Motorola DroidX and it takes pretty good pics. It even takes hd video, which is pretty cool for a phone camera!

i got the nikon d5000. its not as cheap as an entry level though but i like it. its got great ISO on it for low light shooting and i can shoot up to 4 frames a second. i really like the high speed shutter on it. plus getting 2 lenses was nice as well. but there are so many features to the camera i have not even figured out yet. definitely takes some learning. i think i paid around 1200 or so for my setup can't remember but i wanted it for our kid. i didn't want to pay ridiculous prices for photographers as she grew up, i know i can learn photography /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif

+1 for the Nikon Rebel XT

My next purchase will be the $150 macro lens to take those incredible up close pics
