Carbon

    I'm sure this has been discussed numerous times before but i'm curious how long you leave carbon in, when you use it. 
    I've disrupted my tank several times in the last few weeks so have put a carbon bag in....have had sand and rock changes, etc.  I always feel when it's a major disruption I don't want to leave it in as long.  When I just use it to keep the tank steady without a lot of "stuff" being flung about I leave it in longer.  
    Thoughts?

    I would say about 30 days.

    I've always had good luck running carbon 24/7 as well!

    I also run carbon 24/7  and usually change every 30 days... although I have let it go on longer and haven't seen any "bad" results.

    Dang...i've wasted a lot of carbon over the years  [​IMG]  I usually only leave it in a week or two. [​IMG]
    30 days it is then.  Thanks for the input everyone.

    I think it depends on the method you use to add carbon to your system too. I think a reactor will expend carbon faster than just floating a sock.

    I used to run Carbon 24/7 tell I decided to run Chemi pure Elite and GFO. But one thing I heard was to take your carbon out and rinse it, to make sure it last 30 days. Also having the right amount will make it last the desire time, to little will soak up stuff to quick and be worthless, and cause more harm than good. So check out Bulk Reef Supply, and use their Calculator and figure everything out.
