    All,
I just put some Chaeto in my tank so I am looking for future advice.
I was reading on nano-reef.com a subject with regards to Chaeto trimming due to it dieing.
Several people posted that Chaeto should be trimmed monthly.  My question is what on the Chaeto to trim?  How do you know if Chaeto is dead?
Posters said Chaeto slowly dies, and when it does, it relaeses the "stuff" it ate back into your tank, and you do not want that to happen.
    Please provide any feedback...
    Thanks,
    -Justin

i may be wrong but i believe if it starts turning color that means it dieing, should be very green, it will also become brittle. there are times when i trim mine back just too get room for more growth weather its dead or not.

The life cycle of chaeto can be from weeks to few months. As long as you keep it trimmed and loose so water can freely flow through it, you should be fine.
