Some places like Home Depot did carry a product call "South Down" at one time, but it's no longer produced and therefore no longer available in stores. You might find a bag of it online if you search hard enough. I've seen a few posted available in our Buy/Sell/Trade forum from time to time.

Other than that, I'm not aware of any hardware stores that sell an argonite based sand.

I would also be willing to bet that a ton of it will be at the frag even in november. I have never been to that one, but the one that was at the zoo in DSM last year had like 5-10 bags pretty cheap. If you can wait that long...

I think Dave was the one that had it and he has already confirmed that he *will not* be selling at the event. If I remember right, they weren't even his; he was selling them for someone else. It was crushed coral substrate. If you're looking for that, I would recommend that you contact him directly. He goes by billbigsbe on the forums.

Two things I would recommend. First Joing GIRS, second go into Seascapes and see what kind of deal Tim and/or Scott will make you on what sand you need. They will usually give GIRS members good deals on such things. I bought three bags recently and was VERY happy with the price. Not Southdown happy but definitely happy compared to online.
Brett at Petland will also shoot members a great deal. So there would be a second place to try.
