I have a 1.5" Maxima clam that I've had for about two weeks now. Its in the bottom of a 65g aquarium (24" high) in a sand bed with 2 x 150w MH 20K bulbs and 2 x 36w Actinic T5 bulbs. Its color is not what I would want. It has a neat pattern on it but the colors are pretty much brown and have been since I got it (from ACC). Is this a matter of a young clam? Not enough lighting? Not enough food? Lacking any other nutrients?
    Any suggestions welcome /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif

There might be a chance it could use some more light. I have a smaller clam I just moved up pretty high on the rocks and I noticed the colors have started to change a little. This could be that it is growing a little faster now that it is getting higher light or it just needed the light to make it happy so it is showing its true colors. If you can find somewhere on the rocks that it will sit and not worry about it falling you could try moving it up.

Ok /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif Can they still make their foot on the rocks?

Their foot attaches better to rocks than sand. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif
As far as coloration, is it all brown or are there hints of blue or green on it?  Some maximas are brown or gold in color so that's why I am asking.  Here are a couple examples.

He's a consistent brown with dark polka dots. I always assumed he was just under colored because they didn't have the fancy lights set up yet at ACC and he hasn't been under my lights all that long.. interesting thought though.. hmmm
Now, looking at those photos, he has the markings of the second picture. So maybe he is going to be a gold clammy. I'll try the rocks and see how it goes from there.
