Hey all.  I've basically completed my tank stocking by getting a ~2.5 inch Maxima clam.  I feed a good chunk of Rod's original food each evening, and flake in the morning.  I know that Rod's has 'stuff' in it for filter feeders, will that be enough to satisfy my clam until it's big enough to not require target feeding?  If not, how often should I feed?  How will I know if it's starving?
    Thanks,Michael

probably not, you are going to want to feed phyto. Make sure to turn your skimmer and return pump off when you feed it or it will be wasted

yeah if you want to feed something that is pallatable (or rather just the appropriate cuisine and particle size) you'll want to feed plankton around 10-40nm in size. Although a clam that has already reached that size will be fully autotrophic, he can produce all his nutritional needs nearly 3 fold just from the zoxanthellate that live in his mantle. James Fatheree's book, "Giant Clams in the Sea and in the Aquarium" totally awesome book, there is soo much more information about many facets of clam husbandry, once again, again and again and again, I have to recommend this book, it's totally excellent!

Dirks had a copy of that book, but I got two of Scott W. Michael's books instead. I'll have to see if my local library can get a copy to me.

ahh yeah, those scott michael books are great, but they're essentially just a detailed atlas of different fish groups, which is totally cool, but it depends on what your after. I have every book from that collection, and then like.....a bugillion more

I hate to say this, but the ones I have are kinda like "The Internet In A Book". I've got "101 best saltwater fish" and "101 best saltwater inverts" and "500 essential marine fish", so if I want to know something quick and dirty about a fish, I've got a pretty good reference. I really like the model community tanks that he has, and have basically based my stocking off his recommendations.
