i woke up this morning and realized i was missing one of my clowns. after searching the tank and floor, i looked down into my sump. he managed to make it thru the plumbing and was still alive smimming in my filter sock! has anyone else had this happen? and what are some ideas that i could do to prevent this?

This just happened to me with 3 of my new fish. 2 were trapped in the overflow, and one made it to the sump. I retrieved all three and put egg crate light diffuser(available at Menard's) across the top of my overflows. They are are staying out of the overflows now.

In my 38gallon, I use some plastic screen around the overflow tube.

I put gutter guard around my overflow, and I put a strainer in my stand pipe in the overflow. The strainer is a maintenance issue though.

I had a black clown jump out of my tank about a month ago. Wife found it petrified on the floor.

I bought 2 baby clowns 4 months ago and for the first week one got into my overflow but didnt goto sump it stayed up top. I drilled small holes so fish couldnt make it down. I still leave them uncovered I'd rather have them stuck in there alive than petrified. In 4 years I've had 2 fish jump to the floor and get petrified a pseudo strawberry and a damsel.

I had a blue lobster escape my freshwater tank once. I found him the same way. But he managed to make it 15 feet from the tank

When we took our tank down, we found where all of our snails had gone. Must have been 20 of them that had just crawled out over the top and dropped between the stand and the wall. Also found a couple of petrified fish. Poor guys.

I had a crab that hitch hiked into my nano cube and lived in the integrated sump area until he became too large for it. He crawled out and down a carpeted hallway. I saw this lump of gross looking fur laying there and thought it was something that had fallen off my dog. I was really surprised when I went to pick it up with a tissue and it moved! I ended up cleaning the fur and carpet fuzz off and putting the crab into my sons tank where it has been living happily for about a year.

I've had this happen as well---so my main concern was why, something was freaking the fish out in order for it to go where it's never gone before, soooo I investigated one night! I found my butt headed 6 line wrasse chasing some of of the smaller fish---- he got moved!!
