Clownfish Advice

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Whitney, Sep 12, 2013.

  1. I need some advice on a pair of maroon clownfish we have...

Originally there was the pair we bought, they got along fine. Then one of them ended up dying. So went and bought another one the same day, thinking mayyybe the fish in the tank wouldn't know, and it'd work out. Well they started fighting... after a day figured out this isn't dominance fighting, the one that had been there was picking on the new ones fins and stuff, and the new one looks ragged on its fins. So I caught the new fish, and had it in a net in the tank since so it doesn't get picked on.

Thought we'd have to get rid of both clown fish if we want a pair to get along, so I caught the other one and put it in a separate net in the tank. I moved them both into a bucket this morning to see how they'd act, and now they aren't fighting. They're actually hanging out together...

Is it possible after relocating them together like that that they might get along, or is it not worth the try and just get rid of both of them and buy a new pair? I'd rather not get rid of them if I don't have to, I don't like getting rid of my fishies /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/sad.gif And moving the rock in the tank around is not an option, it has rod in it and stuff. And BTW this is in the 180g tank.

That seems strange to me with a tank that size ( the fighting part )
Could you put them both in your QT for a couple weeks then introduce them to the display at the same time?

    Maroons are notoriously mean fish.

If you want to keep them, a few ideas. They make a mesh they sell at places like hobby lobby for making baskets and stuff, it is really cheap. You can make a basket with that and zip ties that will hang in your tank. Put a divider in it and put a fish in each side so they can see each other, but cant get to each other. After a few days, cut a hole just big enough for the smallest to get through. After a week, they should be ok together.

Now that being said, your maroons may be mean to other fish in your tank forever, so keep that in mind.

  5. I just realized I never updated this...it's way late but oh well, haha. Ended up donating them back :/ They just weren't working and didn't want them to kill each other!
