    Hey all,
OK, so I've got my Super Skimmer set up and man has it been a bear to get going. I had it running with no microbubbles after several hours of futzing and it was starting to froth, then I was adjusting the pump because there were some micro bubble coming out of there and the hose kept falling off. The thing was a pain to get in in the first place and because it is suspended with nothing to hold it but gravity the thing kept falling off as I moved stuff around. When I got it started up again I was back to where I'd been when I first started it u: a lot of micro bubbles coming out of the diffuser. On top of that, I have the output hose sort of resting on the top of the diffuser sponge because I've read that if it gets water baked up into it, it will not work properly. Downside: The thing is super noisy.
Also, how do you get the collection cup off without taking off the whole collection cup assembly?
here are a couple pics of how I have it set up. Anyone with any experience with these thing have any words of wisdom. I wasn't planning on buying this, but the LFS offered to sell it to me brand new for $95. I couldn't resist that kind of price for a brand new piece.[IMG][IMG]

It will get you by, but put it on your list to upgrade as soon as you have more money. I have a Bubble magus knock off I bought for 129.99 and I love it. It is insump with the pump under the cone. I have a Coralife I could have sold you for cheap too. Many mods have to be done some times to get them to work well. Mine got me by, but I wouldn't buy another one unless I got it real cheap as I did with the one I have. Its always good to support your LFS good job. I always post my wants before I buy new just to make sure there are no good deals out there for used.

You have to break a Skimmer in. Run it with the Bubbles around the start of the neck and do this for around 2 days or up to 3. You will see some dirt in the bubbles at top so you are ready for sure at this time. Then fine tune the bubbles to work there way up to the top over time. It take s while to get it working good. A week and you should have it fine tuned. Call me if you need more help

Thanks, Kyle. Yeah, I actually bought a bakpak2 from someone on here, but came across this deal last night and thought, since it was rated for a 125 and that's where I'm going one of these days It might be best to take advantage of the deal and sell the bakpak when I get it.
I guess the micro bubbles concern me because I had it running since last night with no bubble and now, bubbles and they don't seem to be subsiding the way they did last night.
And...how do you get the cup off? I've been reluctant to force it and the manual doesn't cover it.

I would take it back and use the Bakpak2 if I was you. micro bubbles are hard to get cleared up if you don't know what you are doing. Just keep working at it or I am sure one of us locals can come help. I know I have the next 5 days off. Keep me posted..

Ack. This is making me crazy. I had the thing running and pulling frothy stuff and now the bubbles won't go away. The little nipple at the top of the output broke off at some point. Could that be it?
I've read everything I can on this thing for the past day and have tried just about everything recommended short of modding with PVC.
I really like this option over the CPR because it has the higher capacity (CPR only rated 60 gallons) and can run in the sump as well as HOB.

Some of the CPR go up to 75gal depending on your bio load. I don't think the nipple output thing that broke off is your problem. Unless it was your input. There should be a tube running from your pump inlet to the top of the skimmer giving it air. Try to get a air flow valve and adjust that to help out. I will try to get a hold of you in the next few days by phone.
    stay cool..

All skimmers take a break in period, until it is broke in you'll have the bubbles.
I agree with Kyle, new or not, it's not much of a skimmer.
    Good luck!

Thanks Kyle and everyone else. It's settled down some today. Still some bubbles, but not as bad. No skimmate yet, but plenty of bubble in the chamber. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I will try the cpd when it gets here and keep what works best I suppose. But if I move to a sump the cpd will do me no good. Or will it?

Nothing wrong with having a back up skimmer just in case you need to tear apart your main for a couple days. I made the mistake when moving from my 55 to my 135, I need a larger skimmer. The skimmer I had on the 55 was rated for 125 gallons so I was over skimming, now I am under skimming. I plan to move to a 210 here soon and will probably just run an ATS since the cost of the larger skimmers are crazy high.

OK, the thing's been running since Monday night and other than the hiccups with set up it's been running non-stop. Still no foam. Boo.
