Yes, it's more expensive than a typical swap, but typical swaps don't have 100+ vendors, 20 presenters, $50,000 raffles, banquets, etc.

And remember, members can get passes for a lot cheaper and have the whole thing reimbursed if they decide to volunteer at the event. This is a great opportunity for GIRS members to participate in the club and see an amazing event at the same time.

looking online it looks like they were $109 last year in orlando.
and they are $150 this year in des moines? you would think they would be cheaper here of all places

We are cheaper.  Orlando was $160 at the door, not to mention the added expense of being in Orlando where everything is pricey.   The did have several different early bird prices, but so did we (ours were all cheaper).
All of the member pricing is available in the club business forum here on the site.

so for your average non member this is like paying gate price at the fair.....every day for all 10 days of it..
I cannot imagine who thought these prices would be viable. I predict an extremely small turnout

$60 for the whole weekend would be crazy steep.

Your prediction is already wrong.  We already have hundreds of paid pre-registrations from all over the country.  We even have people flying in from as far away as Australia and Saudi Arabia to attend.  Last year's MACNA had over 1500 attendees and there prices were higher than ours. MACNA is a big deal for a lot of people.   It's even on the cover of AFI this month and they have a long article about it's history and why you should go.
If you're only concern is getting good deals on stuff, then you'll be disappointed, because that's not at all what the show is about.

if good deals arent what it is about you should change the title of your post "Corals and equipment for sale SUPER CHEAP!" as it is very very misleading

hundreds of pre paid already? well there is a saying about a fool and their money.

unless this specific content (you tube among others have vast information regarding the hobby) is something that cannot be found on the internet free i don't see the draw unless there are bargains to be had.
the saudi arabia thing makes sense with oil being insane per barrel.. but then again i get back to my fool and his money comment

LOL, I think you missed the tongue-in-cheek intent of my original post.   I wasn't actually trying to say that MACNA was where you can get cheap corals and equipment, I was poking a little fun at the fact that during the summer it's always difficult to get people to participate in a thread unless it involves buying and selling.   This is the time of year when people aren't focused on the "hobby" part of the hobby.
As far as "a fool and his money" goes, I'm sure there are people out there who think that anyone such as yourself who spends their hard earned money on something as non-essential as a fish tank is a fool, but as I said in the other thread, it's all relative to your particular situation.

a fish tank i can enjoy.... someone simply talking about a fishtank i find less enjoyable.. but i see the angle. not everyone is proficient at computers enough to find information on the internet. so they need to pay

This is the biggest event that a club can sponsor. It's a real honor for GIRS, and a great way for GIRS and Iowa to be recognized. These things cost what they cost. If you don't want to work to get in free, and if you don't want to pay the price to get in without working, I don't understand the point of your post.
