My zoas and hammer and frogspawn corals are not looking well .My water parameters are Salinity1.024, kh is9.6, magnesium is 1260 and cacium is 440.nitrates at zero. had another club member test parameters with like results.Only thing that has changed is I added a algea scrubber from Bud. I have all top notch equipment,Calcium reactors which medium has been changed 5stage ro/di maker for water changes,Ecotech radion lighting etc.Have done water changes had some zoas kind of melt down.Corals dont seem to be opening up.Need help. hate to start losing eveything. I live in cedar rapids if someone would like to come over to observe and possibly help would be greatly appreciated. My number is 319-366-1789.

If it started after you added the algae scrubber, take it offline.

If your water was a little dirty, and the scrubber cleaned it up, your par might have gone up & are now burning your corals. Check the par, or perhaps move up the light a couple inches, see if that will help.

I think algae scrubbers take quite a while to break in since they have to build up with algae before results are noticed, I wouldn't think that would be a problem. I'd more than likely think you're burning your corals with the LEDs. What percentages are you running them? How long of light cycles? How long have you been running them? How are the fish doing? Inverts? Any recent additions in livestock recently? Are there other corals doing good?

I cant imagine what would make zoas melt... These are the hardest corals to kill ime. I googled "zoanthids melting" and found its common, but like many things reef related there was a lot if advice based on speculation.

Euphyllias are very sensitive to water chemistry, esp. Alk ime. This shouldn 't be a prob. What has changed in past ten days?

I agree with eveybodys replies but I also have put on one of Buds scrubbers , I have had a bad case of hair algea. Refrence = Rich(Saltwaternewbe) (Herman) (Troy) (Nick)CR. have talked to Andrew & Jeremy (ACC) about my problem a couple of times, anyways I have been running my scrubber for about 4 months and all my algae is gone. I have also lost a couple of zoas since every thing has cleared up. I have been making adjustments to my system.cutting back on the scrubber time, shut my protin skimmer off, qiut running my gfo but I am still running my carbon. I have never been able to feed (2) cubes per day because of my algea and have lost some nice fish. Now I am feeding what I should be and all my fish are getting FAT.Also have turned my LEDS down and supplimented trace elements. Everthing is doing fine know but the bump in the road (sucks) the algea scrubber works it just makes your system to (pure) need to make adjustments. would love more feed back.

Is the scrubber really starting to grow fast yet? If so, like Harley said, you may need to adjust and feed some more or something.

My guess is a water parameter is wacky, or something got in your tank? Did you do a water change? That couldn't hurt if something nasty is in there. Run carbon too.

I'd dbl check and recalibrate your pH probe from you reactor too.

I may be way off track...but are you on city water? Would chloramine or phosphate be a possible concern?

How often are you doing water changes? What chemicals are you adding?

Ive seen this happen when overdosing iodine or vitamin c.

When did you put on the leds?

Another thing is you might want to bump up feeding if your nitrates are at 0. Zoas and hammers like dirty water. If not running lps at all I would look to keep your nitrates at 5 to 10ppm.

A few other things to consider and hopefully rule out: sudden or seasonal temperature change, change in flow, introduction of pests.
