So I put brand new CoralVue Reeflux 400W 20K SE bulbs in my tank tonight.  One started right away, the other didn't.  The one that didn't start immediately, started a few minutes later...then a few minutes after that, exploded.  I fished the chunks out of the tank, and put the old XM 20K back in until I can get a replacement.  The CoralVue customer service responded within a few hours (despite it being after closing time) and said they would ship a replacement as soon as I could send them a tracking number showing that I was sending the broken bulb back...so hopefully I'll have a new bulbs soon.  Thank you CoralVue for standing behind your product and for the prompt response.

I have been using them for 1.5 years, went through 2 sets reeflux 12K(3 bulbs) and reeflux 20K(2 bulbs), had no issues with either one of them. I like them a lot. I have been running them on coralvue ballasts.

I'm running them on IceCap electronic ballasts. I guess I just got a bad bulb. The replacement should be in the mail to me this afternoon. CoralVue must be a smaller company because the president is responding to my e-mails and very promptly I might add. They have been good to deal with.

yeah i think they are smaller, they shut down the office for mardi gras when i was looking for cords for my ballasts haha. when i called to see if they had any the lady on the phone just yelled for someone and asked if they had any instock. seemed pretty laid back. i liked the feel of dealing with them.

its actually not that un common to have a bulb blow up when there new, ive had a couple xm's do it, they said its just something that happens and they really have no control over it.

That's good to know.  I've heard about that happening with a big water splash, but not when powering on for the first time.  Thanks for the info!

Oil from your fingers can also burst a bulb. I always handle mine with a clean soft cloth.

Yeah, I figured that to be the case.  It was more speculation with the MH bulbs, but I knew for a fact that could be the case with halogen car headlights.  With that in mind, I installed them with a new microfiber washcloth making sure not to get saltwater or anything on them.
