I would like someone to help with my APEX. I have only a basic understanding of networks and don't even know how to ask or find the right questions. This is compounded by the fact that I only have Macs (not recommended).
My APEX is hooked up, probes work and is wired directly into my home network. I can see it via my IPAD app.
My main desire is assistance hooking this thing up too the web. I'm confident I can program the rest, but would gladly welcome  sound advice about how to trick out my connections to tunze 6105s, heaters, lights, dosing pumps, etc.
I have done my best to collect as much network info about my home network and clients as possible, but I'm having trouble putting it all together.
I'm really starting to second guess this purchase. In theory, its a great safety net, but I'm not confident that I have the ability to keep it up and running or diagnose problems... The idea was that it would make my life easier. To date, it has not, its just been complicated. My biggest criticism of this product is that the users guide (and even the"UnofficialUsers Guide" are written too concisely and without consultation from lay people. They use too much jargon, are too concise and are aimed at PC users (i am, but im stuck with a Mac!). If they took a couple more paragraphs to explain some of this I think it would help greatly.
Woild anyone be willing to come over and help set this thing up? I'm cash poor, but would gladly trade corals, or some other stuff I have lying around...

I would volunteer, but don't know how much help I would actually be. I got mine set up on my PC, but wouldn't have the slightest clue about getting it set up with your mac. Once you do get it up and running it really does make life easier. Just take your time getting everything switched over to the APEX. If you run into problems post up your code. There are plenty of people around to help diagnose issues.

Do you use an apple airport base station? If so....

Go to google type in 'What's my ip' you should get an answer. It will look something like xxx.xx.xx.xxx

    Write this ip down.

Now, go to your computer and open you airport utility to access your airport base station

On the Internet->NAT tab, check Enable NAT Port Port Mapping Protocol.
    Click Configure Port Mappings.
    Click the +
    Do *not* choose a service.
Leave Public UDP Port(s) and Private UDP Port(s) blank.
Pick a 4-digit number (>1024) that you will easily remember, and enter it in the Public TCP Port(s) field.
Enter 80 in the Private TCP Port(s) field.
Enter your Apex's IP address (10.0.1.50) in the Private IP Address field.
    Click Continue.
Enter a description, such as Apex Web
Leave the Bonjour option unchecked, then click Done.
    Click Update.

After the AirPort base station restarts, turn off WiFi on the iPhone, then enter this URL in Safari on the iPhone:

http://xxx.xx.xx.xxx:1234 (the x's represent your ip and use the 4-digit number you picked above in place of 1234)

You should get a login prompt from the Apex.

    Thanks Jim,

I use a Airport extreme router. My Ipad wont access this like you describe-it has an app for the network connection, but its very limited in its capabilities. Settings offers little more. She has a notebook i'll try it on later...

Just to clarify, this will allow me to see the apex from the web? Will i still need a domain name?

    Thaks again,

    Matt

You won't be able to modify your airport extreme with your iPad. You will need a computer that can access your router via the airport utility.

What we are doing is trying to get your apex to broadcast to the web, yes. The settings above modify your router to allow you to access your apex from outside your home network.

You won't need a domain name..instead you use your ip address as your domain. That is why you need to find your ip.....we will use it in the modified router settings as well. Eventually you will just be able to type in your ip in the address bar on your web browser and see your apex.

Also I need to correct this line....Enter your Apex's IP address (10.0.1.50) in the Private IP Address field.

DON'T use 10.0.1.50.....use the ip address of YOUR apex. (If you got your iPad app to work then you should know your apex's ip addy.....)
