Probably a very simple answer for this.
I recently purchased a used sump with a CPR backpack.  I have one small clownfish that is not smart enough to stay out of the flow into the backpack.  I have pulled it out of the back 3 times this week and have seen it swimming in the intake of the backpack twice (he was smart enough to get out those two times).  Is there anything I can do to keep this "not so intelligent" fish out of the backpack?

I take it you are referring to the refugiun and not the skimmer? Can you just cap the intake b modifying the PVC plug/cap by drilling some holes or cutting some slits into said plug?

The part I am talking about is the box that hangs on the back of the tank and collects the water going to the sump.

Right. I guess I wasn't clear, sorry. CPR makes many products called the BakPak. Is your product a skimmer or a refugium? Regardless, it sounds like simply enclosing that box with gutter-guard or the like (maybe even a piece of egg crate) would do the trick.

Sounds like a overflow box. Go to menards and look for a plastic screen that is stiff but yet bendable.
Cut yourself a piece the length of it and twice as tall so u can bend it and stick it down in the opening.
Just try and get it with little bigger holes if its small like window screen it might get clogged.
