Not to discount the results of the poll I'm currently hosting, but it's been suggested that North Liberty would be a reasonable middleground for us in the CR/IC area. Although I realize this is closer to IC than it is to CR/Marion.
However, I found a really GREAT space! It's the North Liberty Community Center Gerdin Conference Center. The room we would have accomodates upto 50 people, with free kitchen access for club activities, it's attached to the NL pool, recreation center, and library. Here's the best part, groups under 20 is just $5/hour!!!!
You guys wanna weigh in on this for me?
    Thanks,
    Andy

Have you found rates for more than 20 people? There's times when closer to 30 people show up to events...

Yep, all together the place can accomodate 300 people, it has sliding room dividers. From what I've heard from Bob, last year there were only 4-5 people on average at meets. I was shooting for 10-15, but I have a lot of fresh topics and ideas that I'm going to post in an agenda. I hope more people come!

If you are willing to put on real meetings with real topics, then I'm willing to drive to North Liberty. That's the least I can do.

And btw, I'm not saying we haven't had real meetings with real topics before, just saying that I understand how much work it is.

I have a mess of excellent topics in store! You guys are going to be wildly surprised I think. Bob and I are still working on finalizing our agenda, and I'm already started on putting meeting materials, lectures, ppts, and so on together.

Andy you're getting me excited! I've got a few unique demos planned for our area and hopefully we will be able to attend each others events!

That's great! I plan on sharing my events with the whole club, and giving materials list, ppts, and lecture notes to any trustee upon request.

Exactly ... generally time is an enemy. But my hope for this next year is that Andy and I can spend sufficient time to make the events worth attending....they were a bit on the "lean" side last year. However, even great topics don't always draw a crowd either...I remember last year B-Rad put in loads of time prep'ing for a big plexiglass demo - but, no one came. So, I think there is still a balance of willingness on both sides - willingness to prepare a decent event balanced by a willingness of the club members to actually attend.

How did you guys post in the future? Server time must be different.
Bob that's a great point, I hope that members are as willing to attend as I am to prepare good meets. That being said, I intend on putting together materials for great meets that are generally recyclable. We can just move them down the line if we get expressed interest in redoing meets that people missed.
Sweet Bill! Glad to have your support! Maybe we can explore car pooling more actively within the regional forum going forward.

Depending on topic, I will be attending.
Also Bob you should know this, but for Andy, if there is any help needed, don't hesitate to contact me.

Well I'm going to call that a wrap you guys! Since there's so much support for a NL meet place that's where I'm going to book our first meet for the end of Feb. Bob and I are still working out the details and soon we'll have an announcement and 2011 schedule for you guys. I'll be posting reminders 2 weeks prior to each meet. The topics are going to be great, we're going to make our announcement soon when bob and I decide on something.

Based on Bluefool's recently cooked tank...how about we say controller programming...best practices, resources, check out interface and maybe people's programming, etc. Have different people cover the different controllers (AC3/AC Jr./AC3 Pro, RKE/RK Lite, Apex/Apex Lite, Profilux, etc)
    Or fragging...
    Or maybe DIY projects...
    Just a suggestion...

+1 with AJ on the controller topic. I still run the AC3, but there are still alot of stuff that I can do with it, but don't really know. Really mine is just an expensive light and temp controller.

Also its on the list of topics, but the DIY fish/coral food topic. I think the one we had a few years ago was awesome, and wish we could do another one like it. We used JJ's food recipe, and that stuff made everything look better in my tank.
