Crab stole snail shell!

oh yeah.... put some extra empty shells in there with a variety of sizes. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif Then hopefully they won't be ripping out live critters for their new abode! /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/wink.gif

 

As they grow they will be looking for a larger shell...

 

This is why you should either go snails only or crabs only (with exmpty shells for them to grow into). I had an order of snails only from ReefCleaners a few months back. I found out later that2 of the snails weren't snails, but were blue legged hermits. Those stupid bastards were killing off my snails. That was the reason I ordered "only snails." Ticked me off.

 

Yea but those Hermits cover alot of territory quickly.

 

Yep, Nick hit the nail on the head! Crabs or snails-----I would think any local fish store would have some empty shells.

 

i got some larger shels for mine from hobby lobby travis.

i set rugger up with a few for his large hermit and we watched him switch shells 3 times in 5 min till he was in the largest of the 3 i brought. that shell was the size of a golf ball but he carries it like nobodys bussiness!

 

I got both snails and crabs. Crabs kill some snails, but I found more dead snails behind my tank than in it.

Our closest hobby lobby is coralville, but michaels would have shells. How many hermit crabs do you have? I have a little shell graveyard I've accumulated over the years, so I could probably spare some little shells that'd be ok for 1-3 hermits. PM me if interested, but if you have a lot of hermits, then you really should buy a bag at the craft store.


On a side note, I have quite a few snail shells because it would appear I've inherited a snail eating flat worm. I have yet to see the bugger, but by the telltale slime coating I find around a snail shell every other morning, I'm pretty sure that's what I'm up against. Darn thing just got one of my orange turbos. Can't wait to get ahold of it! My pistol shrimp however loves using the shells as building blocks.

 

or ebay sells an assortment of gold mouth turbo shells that work well also for larger crabs

 

Haha no they have plain ol sea shells that aren't painted or anything. If I remember right, in Michaels they're to the left when you walk in, in about the second isle, with some sand and candle making supplies. Ebay is a good idea.

Travis get rid of them. Your tank is only a 29 bio. I took all my blue legs out of my 125 and put them in my bio. Now my 125 is only snails as they were killing all my snails as I caught them. Snails only for your 29 would be adequate enough.
