Custom Aquarium Makers

    Hello GIRS!
    I am researching building/having an aquarium built.
    Are there any local/regional manufacturers (within reasonable driving distance - Id say Chicago is pushing it) who make GOOD quality, custom glass aquariums to relatively exacting specifications??  One of the major prohibitive costs is shipping/freight, which I would (ideally) like to eliminate.  Besides, in this economy, its always helpful to support local business! /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/hehe.gif
    Whats the word?!

    As far as glass not that i know of. But there is a guy in the club (B-Rad) that makes some very nice acrylic tanks.

    If you are willing to go as far is Chicago, I am sure there is something. Just browsing the RC sales forums I saw a tank that was built in Chicago. I will do some searching as I do not remember the name of the company.

    LOL that didn't take long. The company is called coast to coast aquariums. The guy selling the tank said it was custom to his specs, so I assume you could give them a call at the very least to see if they can take care of you.

    EDIT: It says the company is in NJ on closer look of the website, but the guy said he bought from a Chicago facility.

    Fish Brain - Thank you. I have all but eliminated acrylic because its so easy to scratch. I may end up looking into it further as I built my sump from acrylic and it wouldn't be that difficult to build a nice tank with thicker pieces (the 1/4" pieces I had were kind of a pain to get to set straight)

    Bela - Thank you. I will look into the Coast to Coast company as well as other Chicago area tank builders. It may be my best bet.

    If anyone else knows of more quality aquarium manufacturers that do custom work in this region, let me know!

    contact your local pet store, aqueon and perfecto do custom tanks all the time. takes 3-6 weeks normally

    Craig(xroads) got his made from someone up on MN. His were acrylic though.

    I think they have changed there rules lately and you have to be a registered member with so many posts to be able to log in and see the classifieds

    You have to have 50 "meaningful" posts and some forums don't count to your post count. The admins can go in and decrease your post count on a whim. Don't complain about it, it will only make the admins target you. Just find a bunch of threads and post a bunch of messages. Good luck.
