That's A LOT of food! Realistically if you don't have a tank full of huge coral colonies you should really cut back. It's a common mistake made by newer folks in the hobby. Pull what rocks you can out, put peroxide on the hair algae, rinse the rocks with ro and give it a few days.....

When you get that scrubber you can bump feeding up until you start to see nuisance algae again. Theyre sweet and imo the way to go. Hope to build one soon too. Being able to feed a lot is important, but difficult in closed systems.

dude, I can't believe you were feeding that much. I would just stop feeding for 3 days, then feed ever 2 days and only what they can eat in a few minutes. Your fish will be fine and corals too. That's just too much immediately available food.

PS once you get the scrubber, as long as you don't have mechanical filtration (i.e. filter sock) then you don't have to shut off your main pump. Just let it pump the food right on through. You will use less food and get the same result.

I feel like an idiot now.... FML. Live and learn I suppose. What do you recommend for a feeding schedule. Is coral frenzy enough to just use as a stand alone food?

my two cents would include using GFO and a reactor to get rid of the HA. It seemed to do the trick when i was ready to pull my own hair out!

Don't. If you did a search on here of cyano and hair algae you would find we all have done it and some. myself included, still do. Feeding is fun. Coral frenzy is not enough for a stand alone food but foods like Rods original food is. It is also free or extremely low on phosphates so no pre rinsing like you need to do with other frozen foods.

I feed my fish once a day just when ever I get home from work and have only recently gone to spot feeding I have always just broadcast fed my tank. I am now on a 2 night a week schedule. Once the night before water change/maintenance day which is Sunday for me, and on Wednesday nights. I also add my supplements on Wednesday iodine, fuel, essential minerals and such.

This would help a lot but something should also be known is when you run GFO it will drop your alk so you will need to keep an eye on that.  Something greenonion and B-rad did when they had bryopsis was raise their MAG to the 15-1600s. Not sure if this would effect hair algae or not but would be worth researching.

I do run GFO, stated in first post. My mag is 1500. Alk stays around 10 dKH. Calc is around 500 as well.
