My dendro has not really opened since I got it at macna . HAs any body else's opened that got them at macna? Also I need advice on care. They say no direct light but moderate to high current . Is that everybody else's experience?
Next Question is I have a real nice mummy eye chalice, wanted to get opinions on light levels and current as well. High , middle , low in tank. (Note I have a 7.5 gallon tank with the ai nano on it. The first pic is the tank to give reference. The second is pic of mummy and ricordia. You can see the dendro in the first pic on the left . This is the way it has looked since I got it. Sorry it is tipped couple day old pic and hermit knocked it over.  dendro in the fr/Portals/0/activeforums_Attach/100_2529.jpg/Portals/0/activeforums_Attach/100_2530.jpg

I gotta mummy eye too, but yours is huge!!! I just gotta little piece on a disc. Mine is sitting 12" down, 4" from the center of a 20k 250watt mh, in med/high flow (4" to the side of dead center flow from mp40, about 8" from the pump.) Seems to be LOVING life, eyes were very underdeveloped, and are now getting quite large and has since laid down a bit of matrix all around.

I would keep the dendros on the floor, in med/low flow. Feed often. Are those fruitloop zoas there too? I got some of those as well lol

    cya,
    Andy

Andy I have no idea what they are . Thebooth I got them from sold them to me for 10 bucks as they were starting to close up. There were in the 50 dollar row. The guy also did not know the name I thought they were real cool . Ok paid 15 for the mummy is that a good price ? Also Look at my tank pic the mummy is in the bottom left. Should I leave there or put in more direct light? They say the ai nano is equal to a 250 but i assume they mean at full power . I have the blues at full the white at 46 %. So I figure I could put it closer to the top? You think? Really don't want to burn it. Plus the green on mine has gotten darker has yours as well?

you paid 15 bucks for that mummy eye? I hate you. lol now the fruitloops have really come down in price. you can buy entire colonys of them for under 100 now days.

back on topic. I think you are on the right track with your coral placement. chalices prefer light and flow similar to that of favias and acans. nothing to direct or drastic but still enough to get what they need. i would leave it on the bottom or perhaps move it to the center area on the low area of rocks.

Yeah, I would keep him at least 12" from the water on the mummy eye. Chalices are all kind of different. I burnt the **** out of a few though, granted. But I really think the mummy is liking a little bit more light than most of my others. Green has remained the same color since I got it.

Ok , I just confirmed with my wife that I paid 15 for the mummy . I honestly don't remember the name of the booth. It was the near the front of an isle closest to the door across from the marine geek display. Any body remember? Thanks for the placement ideas. I would think the ricordia are the ok at the bottom as well? I am trying to get better pics but i am working with a kodak 5 mg pixel camera from about 5 years ago. The nikon I bought never worked out.

Ok here is it with flash no blue. Not sure if no brown coral was it or not. I never really paid attention to the names. I did get the dendro and the Acans from Cherry something. They had the 10 dollar acans./Portals/0/activeforums_Attach/100_2555.jpg

I do not think you paid too much or got taken. My guess is its a miami hurricane and worth more then you paid about 75 bucks for a frag that size. A mummy eye that size 150-200 conservatively

There were a few vendors there that were though. had one guy try too sell me a hurricane chalice that size for 125 bucks calling it a my miami that goes anywhere from 300-700 an eye.

We weren't sure if our Dendro was going to make it home from MACNA since the guy who bagged it up for us dropped the bag, Dendro and all, on the floor just before handing it to us.  But after a day in our tank it opened and has been open probably +80% of the time whenever I look.
The Dendro is on the bottom of the tank at the opening of a cave (for shade) with moderate flow.  If it doesn't snag any food on it's own when I feed the fish, I hand-feed a very small piece of Brine Shrimp, Mysis Shrimp, or scallop.  Cyclopese will also get it, along with everything else in your tank ready to eat.

I got 2 dendros from Todd Cherry. Place low in tank/sandbed and moderate to a higher flow. They seem to be very picky on the flow so you may have to move it around until they open. They are non-photosynthetic but will tolerate some light. Placing in a cave/under an overhang is no problem for them...they just need flow and should eat daily ;-0)
