Canister Filters are not the best filtering method for a SW tank. i would switch to a HOB skimmer. as far as making an ATS go to http://www.aescrubber.net to look up some ideas. An ATS takes a few weeks to get the algae growing on the screen but it will outcompete the algae in the display tank, i am running one as an experiment only right now so i am not going to tell you that this is the best solution. I would personally get a HOB skimmer myself because the canister filter is most likely causing some of your algae problems and can cause more problems down the road

oops he meant www.algaescrubber.net go the the sticky called Algae Scrubber Basics, I wrote that (go to the latest summary from last week)

And Donny yes when you run a properly built algae scrubber you will have no algae in the display tank. You will still get stuff on the glass that you have to scrape off but likely not as often.

Still a CUC is really something you want as they are part of the whole system. I would choose http://www.reefcleaners.org they are a sponsor and good to work with if you want to order online

and yeah ditch the canister, IMO algae scrubber is all you need, but if you don't have a sump, there are other issues. These should be solved by the next version which is now due out in April.

thanks for getting that typo, if u really want a scrubber then go to that site or talk to FLOYD who posted abouve this. He is the man to go to about this stuff. I have to say that i have noticed a difference now that my ATS is running and has been growing algae.
