I'd want some food. What's the price? I wan't be able to make it until about 7pm because of work, but can pay for the food in advance.

    DIY FOOD SUMMARY
I'm shooting for $10 per bag, 6" x 6" ziplock about 3/8" thick or so. Roughly the size of a bag of Rod's Food, except thicker.
I plan on making 3 types of food: Reef Food (total tank), FOWLR food, and FOWLR Large/Aggressive.
So here is the basic ingredient list that was used last time:
    Cod filets
    Squid
    Shrimp
    Scallops (bay and/or sea)
    PE Mysis
    Spirulina Brine Shrimp
    Bloodworms
New Life Spectrum 1 or 2mm pellets (3mm for the Large/Aggressive)
    Selcon
    Kent Marine C
    Kent Garlic Extreme
    Eden Sushi Nori
    Cyclopeze (reef food only???)
BRS Reef Chili (reef food only)
Replaced Tropic Marin Pro-Coral Phyton with Two Little Fishes PhytoPlan (reef food only)
Replaced Tropic Marin Pro-Coral Zooton with Two Little Fishes ZoPlan (reef food only)
There was also a jar of Marc Weiss SPS Coral Grow and Sera Granuar. Neither of these are made anymore, so I would need something suitable to replace them. I'll check with Seascapes to see what they can get.
As noted, for the FOWLR, the TLF products, Reef Chili, and maybe the cyclopeze would be removed.
The large/aggressive would be like the FOWLR, except everything would be chunkier.
So we would make the aggressive first, then blend down for the FOWLR, then add the TLF/chili/cyclopeze for the reef.
Any other suggested ingredients, or anything to remove from the formula?
    ------------------------------------------
Next, what I am looking for is a bag count on who wants what. As of right now, here is where it stands:
    armydog:            Reef, 4 bags
    sblomgren:         Reef, 2 bags
    ninjazx777:         Large/Aggressive, 5 bags
    stew:                  Reef, 2 bags
Bela:                   Reef, quite a few bags (lets say 4)
    violet21chewy:   Reef, 3 bags
Me:                     Reef, 6 bags; FOWLR; 6 bags; Large/Aggressive, 1 bag
    So the total is:
    Reef: 21 bags
    FOWLR: 6 bags
    Large/Aggressive: 6 bags
That's a total of 34 bags. I think the last one yielded 39 to 40 bags. So we're close to matching the same mixture. I will factor in an overage with the final count so that there is no need to thin the mixture out (i.e. we'll make extra food) so chime in now if you want some.
I will be checking in with Seascapes but I think they need at least a week lead time on the final order. I am setting a preliminary deadline for guaranteeing your food of Tuesday July 19th.

Ran into gcsoupman and bearsareawesome at Seascapes. Adding:

    gcsoupman: Reef, 4 bags
    bearsareawesome: Reef, 2 bags

So we're up to 40 bags. I'm planning for 60 bags now, if we go over that I'll be shocked.

I'm thinking of adding this to the mix:

    http://www.coralfrenzy.com/home-coral-frenzy.html

    Any opinions either way?

I think I am going to go ahead with adding the Coral Frenzy, nothing but good reviews about it. So that will be in place of the Marc Weiss SPS Coral grow, which looks like it's still available but between the two, I read better reviews for Coral Frenzy.

Also added Hikari Jumbo Krill to the list.

If we bump up to 60 bags (and it looks like that could happen) we need more PE Mysis. Cleaned out Seascapes. Could use another 30 to 40oz. Anyone harboring some?

The date is set for the July BBQ Meeting and the DIY Food Meeting. It will be held at my house on Saturday, July 30th:

    Bud Carlson
    485 S 46th St
    West Des Moines, IA 50265

We will have the BBQ first, and will be firing up the grill around Noon, so you can show up anytime after 11:30am.

It sounds like mcclandy might be bringing or sending some samples of filter bags from Caribbean Filters to see if anyone is interested in doing a group buy. More on that as it develops, read his first post on this thread: http://www.greateriowareefsociety.org/Community/InterestGroups/GroupDetails/tabid/160/asg/5/afnp/80588/aft/23894/showtab/groupforums/Default.aspx

This is a semi-potluck event, so everyone needs to bring a side. One burger or hot dog will be provided per person. If you want something else, bring it, and we'll grill it for you.

The DIY Food will follow the BBQ probably at 2pm, so that when we're done with that, everyone can rush home and put that in the freezer right away. The food last time took about 2 hours from start to finish to get it done, and that was with over a dozen people helping. So the more help, the better.

What I need now is a head count for

    1) number of people coming to the BBQ
    2) a side that you can bring
    3) if you are wanting DIY Food, are you going to be able to help make it?

I don't know if GIRS has done a family BBQ or if they've just typically been members only, but we have kids so if you would like to bring significant others or kids, I'm not opposed, we have 4 kids and they'll probably be there. Just include it in the head count.

I also need to know if anyone has any food processors or blenders they can bring to help with making the DIY Food.

I would like to have the headcount for everything set by Tuesday the 26th so that everything can be finalized. Please post ASAP if you can make it!

    Thanks
    Bud

There will also be yard games such as bags, ladder toss (golf balls on ropes game), pole horseshoes (it's fun, you'll see), croquet, and whatever else anyone wants to bring. Feel free to bring your favorite adult beverage too, we have plenty of coolers and I have a ton of 5g buckets as a reserve /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif This is a summer BBQ after all!!!

That being said, I don't have any plans for the evening so we might just hang out and have a good time after the DIY Food, I do have a 2nd freezer in the garage so it'll keep for a while in there. It's been a while since I threw a good party so I'm up for it.

I would like 2 bags of reef and 2 bags of FOWLR. I will be able to help with the food preparation, and plan to attend the BBQ, will bring some kind of side dish and will only have myself at the BBQ.

Here's where we're at. If you're down for food but nothing listed under "Help" or "BBQ", let me know as soon as you can.
