DIY FOOD EVENT OFFICIAL DATE IS OCTOBER 11th

    Original Post by Zach (zoobie)

We are looking at possibly doing DIY food in september. We want to gauge the interest level and see how many bags people would want. We also are looking at doing a predator type mix if there is enough interest. Please respond to post if you would be interested in the food and about how much you would want. We are shooting for the same price as Feb.

    Revised 09-24-14 (by Bud)

    Updated: 10-9 (by Bud)

Bud/Turbo here, Justin S. is the new trustee for DSM/Ames and he and I will try to keep this first post updated with all the pertinent information about this event.

VENUE CHANGE: The event will be held on Saturday October 11th at 10am

We will be holding the DIY Food at 4PawsUnleashed instead, which is located at 5278 NE 14th St, Des Moines - just north of I-80/35 on NE 14th St

Cost per bags will depend on the total quantity and the mixture/ingredients, but should be close to what it was before: $10 for those in attendance, and $15 for those unable to attend. Bags should average out at 16oz each.

So far here is the list of who is in, how many bags, and if they will be able to attend:

    Turbo/Bud - 10 bags - attend: yes

    Justin S. - 4 bags - attend: yes

    Fence13/chris - 8 bags - attend: yes

    Sponge/Terri - 14 bags - attend: yes

    beckerj3/Jeanette - 2 bags - attend: yes

    Chris C - 1 bag - attend: yes

    tadpole - 2 bags - attend: Yes

    mikesams05p71 - 1 bag - attend: Yes

    scottlittle - 2 bags - attend: Yes

Nik - Several bags (let's say 8) - attend: Yes

    knowarms - 2 bags - attend: Maybe

    Nanotank10- 1 bag - attend: Maybe

    Eric (Eric&Amber) - 2 bags - attend: No

    Dave - 10 bags - attend: No

    stew - 2 bags - attend: No

    Armydog/Donny - Possibly

    Borky00 - Cancelled

    Total: 69 bags

My spreadsheet is set up for about 70 bags at 16 oz each so there is room for more and of course there always is a need for help.

Please post and fill in the blank on the ?'s above if I have you listed.

    Thanks!

    Bud

im interested. But need to know how much is in the bags and hiw long they generally last. And if this is coral and fish food? I know you need to be a member and I will get that taken care of soon. Thanks for the help. Depending upon when you make it I will try to come help and meet some new people. I work odd hours

It is a quart size ziplock bag. It feeds fish and corals:0) It can be frozen as many members do:0) We make it about every 6 months. It's definitely worth the price as it's cheaper than Rod's food or similar:0) The price is usually about $8-10 a bag if I remember correctly. It's definitely worth the price and all fish love it!!

Definitely worth it. The last time we used gallon ziplocks (same amount of food) which worked great because it is then thin enough to snap pieces off. Every tank is different in terms of how long a bag lasts. We go through about 1 per month with 2 large tanks. It is "reef food" - for both coral and fish although I supplement with coral frenzy 1-2x per week.

Sounds good to me. Im going.to get a bag and try it out from donnie. But it looks like ill take some. I have smaller tank (72 gal) comparative speaking to some of the you with only 6 fish and a small number of corals. so I may only need a couple bags. A 180gal upgrade early next year. got about 80% approval from the wife.lol

If the DIY is on September 27th as in Armydogs thread I won't be able to make it but will still buy at least 2 bags of reef food. I know it will cost a little more because of not helping out but I understand that and agree with the policy.

I'll be in for 1 or 2 bags.

As for the date - I think that we will be looking to push this back to a date in early-mid October. The date of Sept 27th had been suggested, but turns out that that is the date for Nebraska Aquatics 3rd Anniversary Bash. Its a great event. More details will be posted on that in a separate thread in the next few days.

I had to search for the other thread

    http://www.greateriowareefsociety.org/Forums/tabid/78/aft/34648/Default.aspx

I think that was just a date selection poll. I'll check with armydog to see what he thinks, things may have changed between then and now, and I think pushing it off to October would be good considering the NAS shindig.

If anyone needs more food, I still have 6 or 7 bags from the last batch with no freezerburn.
