DIY LED Light Build!!!!

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by BBP94, Dec 5, 2013.

  1. Hi everyone!!!

So for the past few months I have been planning a LED Light Build for our 120 gallon tank. Thanks to GIRS 10% off code for LedGroupBuy, the MakersLed deal and my dad's (ScubaMan on GIRS) funding, I have recieved most of the parts and have started the build. To go over the basics, the fixture consists of two 18 inch MakersLed heatsinks, 106 LEDs for the main fixture/ 8 LEDs for the fuge light (114LEDs total), the LEDs will be driven by Meanwell LDD Drivers and everything will be controlled be by a Coralux StormX Controller. I know it sounds like overkill and that is becasue it is but I really wanted to take advantage of the 16 channels of controllability from the StormX.

I have posted a couple of videos on youtbe that start out with the unboxings. This is all new for me so the videos are pretty slow, not as planned out and could be a little bit more imformative. I will continue to post videos of course I will not be able to continue on the fixtures till I am home from college that will be in a few weeks. My youtube channel is called "The Reef Hobbyist". The link is right here:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCS...EIL8Nsi71A. If you have any comments or questions feel free to leave them here or on youtube. I will probably respond faster on youtube.

    Thanks,

    Brandon

Curious, what is the GIRS 10% off LEDgroupbuy promotion? Is that a special time offer or a club perk? Info on it? Where do I find out about these things?

I'll check out your vids because I'm in the process of putting together a build too.

Wow 106 on the main fixture over a 125 is a lot of light.

  7. Yeah I have more LEDs then I need for sure, but I am hoping that I can dim them enough to the point where I don't get a discoball effect.

Yeah, the heatsink is really nice, it has predrilled holes for a larger chip or 20 mm starts. It could probably be used for a smaller thank like my brothers 29 gallon cube. I am posting a video soon of it with LEDs on it soon. Here is the link to the seller:http://www.ebay.com/usr/sure-display. Let me know if that link doesnt work!

  11. I thought I would bump up this post and show some picture of the lights! They are currently running on our 120. I have more videos up on my channel if you are interested in the procedure to build these lights. Here are some pics of the LEDs with their lenses on the heatsinks!
