I'm always on the lookout for DIY stuff & about a year ago I put this together and it worx great.
First the par sensor $155. Be sure to order the sensor that is used for electric lights. SQ-120

Then mounted it to some pvc I had Layin around.

Then hook up to simple multi tester

Then follow instructions on apogee website
Basically multiply readings by 5 and u have your par!

I seen one somewhere where they had it mounted to live rock. It was pretty nifty. And looked cool.

If u zoom in on pvc I marked 5 inch /10inch so I knew were I am measuring par.
5 inch below surface of water
10 inch below.... U get the jist.
    Not scientific but helps.

:joyful:Cool! I think you may have just found a par meter I would buy. Be interesting to put it up against a store bought rig and compare.

Ya I live in fort dodge so not really able to use clubs par meter.
Apogee is pretty much the standard in par meters, so I'd think it should be close
