There's a fish in there! /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/sad.gif I've seen some pico reefs, but none that small containing a fish.

Pico reefs are cool, especially with small shrimp. But a fish?

Ive long had an affinity for pico tanks and had some really "successful" ones. Ive had jar/bowl ones similar to this. I put successful in quotes because compared to larger water column tanks they are all failures. Its just some are better failures than others. The maintenance on such tanks is daily. To keep coral from just slowly dying the water has to be 1/3 changed every day. Levels must be checked every day and proper supplements added. Even with keeping this regimen coral fail to thrive and will eventually atrophy and die. Over the past 20 years Ive tried everything but coral simply cant prosper in tanks under 8 to 10 gallons. The other side of it is that certain invertebrates and some tiny fish such as the tiger goby, elcatinus macrodon do really well. I have one now in a 2 gallon pico that is a happy 4 year old. I have since given up on any corals however. These "jar reefs", in my mind, now are little more than those goldfish in a bag you could win at the state fair. It looks pretty and cute but you know its slimy corpse is getting flushed in a week when the proud winner thought it was an easy pet that would love living in a flower vase. I always got depressed seeing those fish over the years, but i digress.

I'd imagine a couple of dosers constantly pulling and putting water in and out- while hooked up to a larger reef would be an efficient way to do it. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/wink.gif I know that's cheating though... lol.

  4. I think it'd be too much work... and too much risk to loose things.
