I saw that the other day. Definitely good idea. I have parts coming today for this. I had problems finding 5/16 nylon bolts and nuts locally. But should have it Goin Monday.

I am gonna drill the bolt at work. I don't have a drill press at home. No guarantees on video but I can do some pics for sure.

I have been wanting to do this for a while. But the option I was looking at was a skimmate locker from Avast. But my skimmer cup is plenty big enough and this option is way cheaper.

i did basically the same thing but with a homemade skimmate collector. This would be a must for someone with a external skimmer!

I could of used this like two days ago. Wife calls "you got all sorts of alarms going off" well is the tank low, high, or what. "I don't know I'm upstairs" Well go down stairs and look. "Ohhh S*** there's water all over the floor"

I think they stole my design.... well my first design anyway! That design will fail though when you need it because there is no gunk guard on it. I"ll post a pic of the one I use. Gotta clean my skimmer anyway lol

here's mine, been using this design for a couple years now and never had it fail with the gunk guard.

I just use a simple 2 prong plug that I connect and disconnect when cleaning. Mine is setup as normally closed so as soon as I unplug the switch for skimmer cleaning the skimmer automatically shuts off and restarts as soon as I plug it back it.

If any of you guys do this I would point out that you need to have a vent hole in the top of the lid inside the gunk guard so that it does not create a air lock and prevent water from rising into the switch tube. A small 1/16" hole is all it needs. You can't see the hole in my pics but it is right next to the nut on the float switch.
