I know automation is great to an extent but the more you take out the human factor the more changes of things going wrong it seems. You start relying on the technology and get lax on maintenance. Before you know it something breaks or goes wrong and you don't find out until it is too late. To be honest I see a lot of people on forums going back to the basics and living by the saying Keep It Simple Stupid (KISS). Other then that a cool project but it is just not for me.

    Ahh yes!!
A PERFECT example of why I have a job!
I goto work, get to my desk, and find out how many more of those new "automated calculators" just don't quite work right. Then I get to go to the "fully automated device" and figure out why it's not functioning properly!
(yes, I'm talking about computers... lol)

I head someone who had a saliinity monitor on their tank. The controller would top off with RO water or salt water depending on the salinity monitor. Guess what happened to an awesome tank when the salinity monitor malfunctioned.

I think I'm in the same boat as you Bela. Is this for pouring out the salt to mix it? I wasn't going to waste time reading it all. I only do good with pictures!

From what little bit I read before I lost interest in it, yes it looks like an actuator so you can mix salt and water together. A little much and kind of takes all the fun out of it if you ask me BUT the guy might be a reefer and a huge gadget guru?

Whatever floats your boat I guess but can there be much harm in using a measuring cup to scoop and pore salt? Especially if you never get any soap residue or anything on it? hmmm... seems too much robot and too less fishy love IMO.

You know, some people just love automation and gadgets and nerd stuff. I'm one of them. Maybe everything else in this guys system is automated and this is one of the last things not automated. It would allow them to focus on the important stuff like doing regular water testing, cleaning the glass, and doing the other tasks that the rest of us don't have time to do because we're busy doing water changes or making new saltwater or something like that. All that being said, automation fails. It's not if, it's when...so you have to plan for everything to fail and have a backup (like a water level too high indicator or a water on floor indicator, redundancy). Hopefully this guy does that and his automation isn't a ticket to a tank crash.
