My son has a freshwater tank and a Marineland Penguin 200 filter.  Somehow the biowheel got damaged and won't turn.  Does anyone have the wheel they are not using?  Prefer in the DM area.

if he has been useing it for a long time they will stop spinning from the bioload on the wheel and it is perfectly ok for it not to spin but if you want a new one sea scapes shoud have one if not aqualand does or just go to marineland.com click on parts i have ordered from them before they ship fast

Really?  I though they had to spin but I dont' do freshwater so didn't really know.  Just thought I would ask and see if anyone had one before he got another but if he doesn't need it...OK!

Uhh what?  If it's not spinning part of it is going to never get wet and will dry out which is going to kill all the beneficial bacteria growing on it.  If you are depending on Bio wheels to act as your main biological filtration source then having one not spinning could be detrimental to the system.  Personally, I was never "sold" on the bio wheel and would look into other methods of biological filtration like an undergravel filter, wet-dry system, or even something as simple as a sponge filter.

Yeah the wheel needs to spin , it can be slowly moving it doesnt matter but it does need to spin. replacments are 10 bucks at most lfs. but first try cleaning the blue thingys it sits in and you can also rinse the wheels themselves in tank water when you do a change.
