Donations needed for a good cause

Discussion in 'Buy/Sell/Trade' started by nanotank10, Dec 21, 2013.

  1. Some friends of mine have 3 kids of their own in addition to 3 foster children, the youngest of which (4 year old) is extremely fascinated with fish. Unfortunately with all of the new additions to their family, they are in a tight spot and don't have much money to spend on putting together a fish tank. So I am giving them a 20 gallon long as well as a nice stand I bought from Kpotter2 over a year ago. I am also going to put it all together for them and get the tank started, but am lacking many essentials.

It will be a freshwater tank so that they won't have to spend much on upkeep, and all they have is what I am donating, (the tank and stand), so anything you guys can give to help put a smile on these kids faces will be more than appreciated! I will begin setting it up on monday as a sort of christmas present so I can run around and begin picking donations up Sunday.

Here is a list of things I will need, and anything else you guys have laying around that you would care to donate.

A light setup for a 30" long tank (doesn't need to be extremely bright)

Filter for 20+ gallons, and filter media

    50 watt heater

A powerhead or anything for circulation

Gravel or another good sand/stone substrate

Any decorations, ranging from clean slate rocks to driftwood

Fish net, algea scraper, fish food

And of course freshwater fish/snails/crabs/plants. Jasmine, the third foster child is like many of us, attracted to bright, active, entertaining fish.

If someone is feeling very generous this holiday season, A small Rodi unit will undoubtedly save the family a lot of money, time and trouble from having to run to the store every time to do water changes and account for evaporation.

Any and all donations will be extremely helpful and greatly appreciated. Simply post on this thread if you have a donation so people can see what we have already acquired. I can pick up most items if you don't often come by the WDM/Waukee area or simply don't have much free time to drop anything off.Thank you all so much, and God bless. Have a wonderful Christmas.

+1 on slate for decoration. If you were closer I would pick some up from Earl May

  8. Would like to give a huge thank you to Eric and his Basement Bay operation he has running over there; he was instrumental in getting this project finished in time and looking wonderful. Usually not big on freshwater but this tank is looking sick. Thanks again to everybody who has donated!
