I need a new dosing pump, 2 actually, for my auto water change setup.
I am/was running the neptune DOS, but my pump heads have broke themselves to pieces again and I refuse to pay $60 to replace both heads because of an absolute **** design that neptune doesn't seem to want to change. Tubing should be a replacement item on a regular basis, maybe even rollers at longer intervals, but seriously the cheap plastic head housing breaks itself into pieces in less than a year.

So I need 2 dosing pumps that are controllable, adjustable, and accurate. Preferable with a history of long term reliability. I'm thinking its time to just get a litermeter. But is there anything else out there worth looking at.

I would go the litermeter route, been using them for a bit over 2 years now and they run flawlessly changing 4L a day. $15 for a piece of tube seems a bit much but thats the only complaint i have about them, and i keep a set on hand just in case.

How often do you change the tubing?

I had looked at them in the past. I didn't really trust that the output and input volumes would exactly match and being there was no way to adjust one individually I steered away from it.
Granted with the problems on the DOS heads I lose volume as the plastic stresses and cracks, and then lose one side completely when pieces completely break out. I can see now those would be much more reliable than my current setup.

If I was gonna do it over. This is what I would get. Spend your but supposed to be accurate.

I have seen one. They look nice. I wish I would have went this route instead of DOS.
But I haven't had problems yet with the DOS.

About 16-17 months on a set of tubes. I just go off the run hours on them. I clean the rollers every couple months and and calibrate the pumps when i put them back together. Takes about 15 min to do both pumps. Currently pumps are in my basement and tank is located above. New water is drawing from about 3' below pump and discharging about 9' above. Tank water is drwan from about 9' above pump and discharged directly into sewer line about 20' away, just got a clamp on sadle with 1/4" push to connect on sink drain line. I probably would have given up on this hobby if i didnt have this set up, and my boy thinks its not fair that his biocube 14 doesnt have one.

  9. I see on the site it recommends you change the head every 700 hours of run time but nothing on the tubes, they don't sell the either.

they only sell the pump cartridges on the site, where do you get new tubes?

tubes for which unit? I don't think you can buy just the tubes for the DOS.

I like that one, but not sure how well I could plumb it. I couldn't put it close to my water supply, or any type of drain and that may be an issue. I'll have to look into it more.

A nice feature of the litermeter is that you can calibrate the pumps individually to account for different suction and discharge pressures after you have all the tubing. I just used 1/4" poly tubing.
