So I am setting up a 60 gallon cube and need to understand everyone's thoughts. Do you go with dry rock or live rock? Afraid of pests but like the benefits of the live.

  2. live rock your taking a chance if ordering it in, you can get from other members and observe the rock for a while and inspect for pests, with dry rock you will be starting from scratch with the cycle of the tank.

i would think it would come down to the look you want in your tank and can you do it with live rock or will dry work better for your setup.

or for some cost is a factor in the purchase as well

+1 check out local live rock for seeding.
I've never been a fan of ordering rock u can't see first, how I've kept my tank pest free.
If you want a pest free zone go dry and seed it with a few pieces of lr from a friend that you can check out first, Or go all dry and just get get some coraline scrapings from another tank to help jump start coraline coverage. The bacteria will develop over time. U likely won't have the same biodiversity of ocean live rock....but also won't end up with a tank full of aptasia or other stuff. Just my .02

I like the dry route because you can cut, chisel and drill to your liking to achieve the aquascape your looking for. Plus you dont pay for water weight.

I had aptasia on a rock and only way to get rid of it without chemicals was to scald it in hot water. As another note, this kills everything on the rock.
I agree. Go dry and seed with a small live rock.
Pets playhouse has a lot of small rock in their tanks.
