DSM reef stores

    I'm new to DSM as of this past summer and am looking at the possibility of getting back into the hobby (starting small again). Are there any solid reef stores in the DSM area and if so... what are they? Thanks!

    Seascapes is probably the best, and some of the Petco's are turning around but they can be hit or miss at times.

    I think that is about right. Seascapes, petco, Adams aquatics in that order of best to less-best, lol. We don't really have any great stores in DM in my opinion. Seascapes is moving in the right direction and dealing with the manager, Tim, is good, but can really variable with other staff and livestock - but it's the best we have by a large margin. I think anemones clowns and corals needs to rebuild in Des Moines so we have a proper reef store!

    Kind of a disappointing store. Guess I'll be hoping some local people will have some really nice acan frags.

    Yea, sadly the stores here you have to hurry and see what comes in and buy it before the livestock dies in their systems. But you can get deals on half dead sps and just frag them, that is what I normally do.


    We do have great fragfests 2x a year though!

    It's a hard sell when i want a couple nice acans to start off my hobby return. I guess I'll see what the locals have. I guess i can always bring some back from Iowa City lol

    Talk to Armydog. He's got some nice frag tanks just north of DSM. He was a major factor in my start-up, and he usually has some affordable frags.

    Frag fest is a few weeks away you will find what your looking for there and plus some ......

    I'll have to keep that in mind. I won't have my tank set up until June. I'm taking a lot of time this time around. I've already saved a fair bit of money on equipment by going slower. I just like to know that some nice pieces do actually exist in the area lol.

    Jimmy Beaner i have like 15 different acans that im going to frag up and i have a couple duplicate 5-10 head colonies if you perfer that. Ill be bringing one of them to the frag demo
