Dwarf peel angelfish

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by nanotank10, Oct 3, 2012.

  1. Looking at getting either an orange peel or lemon peel angel fish in my tank, only have a pair of false percula clowns and a coral banded shrimp in there at the moment.

Truely beautiful fish, but have heard many many conflicting views on what coral they are compatible with. Will be getting alot of LPS, some rics, other misc soft, and a few more zoas. It may be risky seeing how some people say they pick at zoas and others say lps; but i've also seen alot of articles saying they dont pick at anything and it just depends on the fish. Regardless, I think getting this fish is worth the risk, one of my favorite looking SW fish by far.

Any thoughts? if it picks at zoas, i'll probably have to sell it, so also wondering if it's not compatible with my tank would anybody be interested in buying it off of me for around $30? they tend to run from 45-30, so anyone have experience with the fish?

    Thanks alot!

Lemon peel angels are one of the least reef safe angels. I can just about guarantee that it will eat your zoas and nip at any softies or lps corals. I wouldn't risk buying this fish unless you really don't have any corals that you care about

Also what size tank do you have cause I would say the bare minimum size tank would be a 55gal

Ive never had either of those fish but I have had a potters angle for about 2 years in my reef tank and he never nipped at anything. I have also had a bi-color angle in my reef tank that didnt nip at anything for about 4 years, then one day I noticed all my zoas were closed up and looking pretty bad.. Had my water tested and everything was ok.. Then I just grabbed a chair and sat in front of my tank for awhile and sure enough that bi-color was going crazy on them... Got him out asap and everything that survived opened up after a few days (lost about 90% of my zoa collection). I personally will never put a pygmy angle in a reef tank again...

Two years ago I had a coral beauty and zoas disappeared Had to be him. I dont trust any angels after that. But I think its luck of the draw and you just have to keep an eye on them. And make sure they are well fed.

  6. I have a 29, most sources say the minimum is 30. but ya, from what you guys say and what i've read either they pick right away, a few years after they are in the tank, or not at all, and i'm only going to have this tank for a year until college. So I probably won't get one unless someone would want to buy it off of me for their fowlr tank if things end up going south. thanks for the imput!

A 29gal is way to small unless the Angel is very small
