anyone use egg crate light diffuser as a screen on their tanks?

I have a partial piece and put it over mine and it doesn’t seem to really block much, if any light. I expected a dimming but I didn’t really get one.

I need an easily removable screen top to prevent jumping. I have over the top returns so screens get trickier. Egg crate is easily cut and remains rigid (not in my tank lol)

It likely blocks more than you think it does. Hard to tell with the human eye, but the PAR meter would probably show you a 10-20% decrease or more. Could be a scattering effect also, depends on what type of egg crate - white, black, or mirrored

Yeah it has to block some. I just couldn’t discern the loss.

If someone has tried it and measured it, let me know what you found please.

I did measure it and removed it for that reason. I don' remember the exact measurements but remover it being around 35% - much more than I thought it would have been.
