I have had this tank over a year and everything was good till move and now I also have a small leak coming from the fittings going to overflow but I dont understand the plumbing parts. if there is anybody who can come take a look and help me out I would appreciate it I am completely lost right now.

What is happening to this club. We had a guy who posts that he has an emergency and needs help and have over 70 people look at post and no one to even offer a suggestion? I had contacted Jim last night and tried to give him some assistance but I recently had shoulder surgery and couldn't offer physical help but tried to give suggestions as to what he should do. I followed up with him today and he told me no response from nobody. Now I see he is selling off. Shameful in my opinion.

    Ya seems odd.
Should be plenty of help over on that side of iowa?
But 99% of posts on here are Classifieds anymore (give or take a %)

They must all be on Facebook @Roman@Roman instead of the forum sad really... there should be some kind of rule about or disband the facebook group in iowa city and the Burlington one....

Sorry @Jim@Jim if I lived in the area I would have came over to help you out. Idk how much help I would have been over the phone.

For the fittings did you remove them to move the tank?

Maybe they were jolted during the move you might have to unscrew clean it out then reseal it.

Sorry that i didnt respond sooner as I just saw this

He had tried to loosen them and couldn't get it off so he tightened them back as good as he could . I told him to drain overflow completely remove fitting and clean area well and replace . He has a bad back or hurt it so he also can't get underneath stand to remove it and my arm is in a sling for at least another two weeks.

@Roman@Roman I think @Armydog@Armydog knows that, he was replying to someone making a comment about the forum being all Classified posts lately
People really like Facebook but IMO if you really want to be a part of this club, you have to be on the forum. I've worked really hard over the past 2 years to make it more user friendly, mobile friendly, etc. If it's push alerts people want, Tapatalk pushes every post made to a thread whether you've viewed the recently or not (that's a recent change for them) so hot threads show up on your phone. As much as I think Tapatalk creates some issues, they've done a few things that make me keep it around and it's no worse security wise than FB IMO.

@Jim@Jim I would have told you the same thing that @Roman@Roman did, you have to remove fittings and clean when you move a tank, just as a rule of thumb. So I guess I wouldn't have been able to help either, at least physically.

So @Jim@Jim is this one thing the reason you're getting out, or is there more to it? If someone was able to help you fix the problem, would you stick with the hobby?

Yeah, I've been in Des Moines this weekend and didn't even see this thread until I got an email overnight (email alert came through at 3:49am) that I was "tagged" in it. I agree with others, after 70 views, someone should have said something at least.

I also agree that this place has a heavy buy/sell zone than I've seen in the past. Sad situation on both accounts.

  15. I am very sorry for causing such a stir I didn't mean to make anyone mad or anything. I was very fustrated in the fact that I pay money to a club and to have a ton of views and absolutely no response. (Except for Roman) I did put the system up for sale after I waited overnight and 1/2 sunday morning with still no response. I was angry because I lost everything it's not anybody else's fault but my own. I was not prepared to move it but under the circumstances we were in I had to. I still have 2 clowns a goby and 2 bangi cardinals but the tank is still leaking some (very slow leak) and I am having trouble getting water to correct. at this point I am thinking about totally taking it down all the way to do a massive cleaning on it and just start from scratch. To be honest I just am lost and do not know what is best which is why I wanted some expert advice So somebody could see what I have and if I need something else to make it better and if it is a quick fix or if I should just start over. Sorry for the long post but as you can see I am just really confused on what to do.

Not everybody sits around looking at girs all day, and some people (like myself) we're out of town till later in the day. roman & army u can't really make a blanket statement about all the people in a specific region cause no one chimed in or dropped everything to go help. Also not everyone has internet (like myself) unless they are at home, so even tho my spidey senses are good they didn't alert me someone was in distress in my region.

Anyways, in regards to the op, little late now but, bulkhead leak, clean as mentioned and if that doesn't work new seal.
Die off after a move well thats something you have to be prepared for when tearing down and moving a setup, even with prior planning u may still lose stuff, that's why some people choose to sell off instead of move stuff with them to avoid the risk, don't know the particulars so don't know if that was a feasible option. I planned out my move very well and still lost a couple fish. Sorry u lost your livestock and hope it gets back on track if you keep it.

I have a cube tank set up in my basement that you can take and and set up temporarily until you get yours back in action. All it needs is water. I have been trying to figure what I want in it so it has been setting empty. It is a 28 gallon probably big enough to hold what you have.

It wasn't a matter of somebody from our local region that could've helped him there were 70 views and no responses from anyone. I seen it and I do know Jim and I called him that night after I've seen the posting and try to help him out. I know not everybody sits around on their computers or whatever but the deal is 70 people did view his request bottom line it clearly stated in his post that he was lost and looking for some input from somebody.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. How many of those 70 reads were from other regions? This is in the "General" area (where I too would have probably placed it if I was in that situation to get the most exposure) where anyone and everyone probably goes every time that they are on the forums. So yes, the CR/IC region certainly didn't jump in if they saw it, but nobody commented from any other region either. I know the mentality, "I am not in Cedar Rapids, so I can't help." which is true, but even some ideas or encouraging words would have been nice. As I mentioned before, I was in Des Moines listening to a marching band competition at Valley when this all happened, and we stayed there until pretty late last night since my oldest goes to Drake.

I don't always check the forums on weekends even if I am home, but I agree that blaming an entire region of people isn't the answer. We all, in some shape or form, failed Jim. Myself included. I could have checked the forum or something, or even arranged someone to let him into my house to get whatever supplies he would need. Heck, I even have a 20 gallon and a 10 gallon QT set up right now that are "fishless" that could have housed his fish for at least a few days. I feel absolutely horrible about this, even though I wasn't home and coordinating something while away would have been tricky.

@Jim@Jim, none of this "lack of support" is your fault. You did everything right after the emergency hit. Yes, some other items could have been done differently to better prep, but that is in the past and can't be changed anyway.

I am heading to Dallas, TX for work for the week, but if there is something I can do this weekend, let me know. I know that is probably too little, too late, but if you need anything from RO/DI water, extra live rock, whatever to help you out after the dust settles for a few days, let me know and I am there. I am just over in Marion, and can go wherever.

    Included here too
You were within visual distance of my house!
I don't think you made anyone mad, I think that we're all kind of mad at ourselves for seeing it and maybe assuming that someone else close would help. It's just a lesson learned. Even a post of "what do you think is the problem" if we're not in the area.

As for the continual leak, is there any way you can "capture" the water leak and re-direct it to the sump so that you are at least not losing any more water out of the system? That's a quick-fix. The leak might eventually go away completely (self-seal) but that's not the best long-term plan. Should be as simple as removing and cleaning the bulkhead, or changing the seal. Generally any movement of a bulkhead that has been in place for a while will break the seal partially so you always need to completely remove, clean, and re-seat a bulkhead whenever do any major plumbing work. Worst case, new bulkhead and cleaning around the seal-side of the hole.

You can pull through this Jim!
