Sounds like you were doomed from the start. You really have to plan things out and make the right.choices the first time. Not just what you can with what you have.

theres a lot of people that have had nice reefs without having the best equipment if theyve had the time to upkeep the reef. tap water but more frequent wc. ill never buy into the if u dont have the best equipment u cant have a reef. i hate seeing people smashing peoples dreams and hopes with that crap. let then try... they might have nicer tanks than someone with the best of everything. its terrible having people say and treat others differently cause of money or backgrounds. i admit i dont have the cash to buy the greatest equipment. id rather take my wife out for dinner than buya fish or something but i love the salty world but the politics and "rules" kill it for me.

Dude your equipment was not the problem at all! Well maybe two heaters would be better. You give up to easily . I have a 4gal nano and have not even a heater in it nor do I touch it much at all. last time i did a water change was 3 weeks ago maybe. Fish are good and frogspawn is doing well. Stock LED light even. You need to be willing to do the work if needed and take help when given it. I understand about you working a lot. I have work, wife and two kids. Son is in Basketball,Baseball and I coach both. Plus he is in another traveling Basketball team. I for one understand time thing.

That being said you seem to have planed this build out. your also right there seems to be people out there that think the best of everything is the only way. This is Dead wrong and everyone has there ways and I know I don't have the best of everything. To be in this hobby you have to have time, patients and determination to gather info and have good problem solving skills.

You have to take a good look in the mirror and challenge your self or give up. There is nothing wrong with giving up if you don't want to hassle with it.

Have you ask anyone to come take a look at your system for you and figure some things out? You are a member of a rather very large club made up of some very great and smart people.

Take care man and sure wish you would think harder about selling. You worked really hard to get that tank and it looks good. You just need to nail down the problems and don't go to fast.

    Take care,,

    Kyle

no one treats anyone differently for any of those reasons. Thats great that you have you priorities straight. But at the same time this hobby can get expensive for anyones budget. I work 70hr weeks too i know how it can get.

But before i even bought my tank i sat down and planned this build out. I knew that I couldnt fight an uphill battle, so first thing I bought was an RODI unit. Yes you can get by with tap water, but for how long? You end up putting in more work. And time is money. Your car calls for Premium gas. But you can run low octane and still get around. But when SHTF dont curse the car for being a lemon.

you dont need the most expensive equipment to make it work. But you do need the basics. RODI, ATO, Skimmers, reactors, etc. they are all up fort debate on neccesity. however they are there for your convienence. A little extra money for an ATO means you dont have to top off everyday. skimmer can help you with frequent water changes. RODI can keep you from fighting algae.

I wish you get back into it in the future. just wait until you are ready to devote the time and yes even the money it takes to get it working. You had a lot of people chime in to help on your temp troubles and I thought for sure you were satisfied finally but i guess you werent really into it 100%

6 stage rodi from ebay for 130 bucks. Cant go wrong. Thatll solve most your problems. Dont buy expensive units as theyre all the same the filters are all universal. Id purchase one of those if you can afford it and if even help ya set it up. Jus let me know. Alot of us are willing to help fellow reefers!

I actually support your idea. You know what your challenges are and understand your priorities. It takes a few tries for most people before they understand what makes reefs tick AND what is realistic for them to handle:workload, space in home, spare time, budget (yeah right), setup/gear, family tolerance, etc. etc.

You like em, you'll be back and have a better tank when youre ready. Seen it many times.
