On the water topic: NE CR walmart and hyvee have tested good for me in the past and havent had any problems related to water source so i think youd be good going for water here in CR. Different locations different quality, CR vs dsm/ank v anywhere ect? All in their maint of the machine. Testing is good if ya have a tds meter, and cant blindly blame a ro unit at a store for algae prob w/o testing the water first, if its high then yeah, but if not it can be a variety of things, and cant say w/o seeing the tank situation and tds of the water source.

Once ya get it going, water changes on a 12g w/sml sump shouldnt be that bad to accomodate, 5 gall bucket probably last 2 changes w/topoff too. $1.85/bucket, get two while ur there and you got water for a while. I do 15/20% every week so I know getting the water is a pain in the *** too. Keep up at it with whats available, you can do it, just takes time.

The walmart here tests TDS at least monthly and has the results on the machine.

You know what you need to do man. If you can't dedicate the time to a tank because of other things in your life then you need to get out. You have a lot of stuff that you would rather do which is great. No point in setting up very needy reef tank at this point. You can always get another tank later on down the road. Save up and set up a nice little system that requires less maintenance, and that you can actually enjoy.

Those shrooms are tough, they survived 2 tank crashes few yrs ago when i first started reef setup, and came back big n strong both times, and they were alot smaller then, than they were when ya took em. Scour CL for a tank, theres some on there now that arent too bad, 55-90 gal range, offer em trades for stuff ya might have layin around they might want, ya never know. Few 55s i c, thats a decent size thats manageable. Be more stable and enjoyable with a larger volume
