My maroon clown has lately become very agressive and started biting.  Really fun, especially when re-organizing my tank and putting in frags.  Here is what she did to me today.

Yeah, merry christmas to her too. She has three anemones, which is part of the problem. She is very defensive of her turf. If she keeps it up, I may have to try clown almondine. :)

They all must be revolting against humans lately lol. I have two that are getting to agressive as well. Ive been seriously thinking abought getting rid of mine! They need to realize their not my favorite fish and are easy to get rid of lol.

I like mine, even though they bite. They are a mated pair and are really cool in the tank. No problems except when I'm swimming. I may get some gauntletts for working in the water to avoid blood loss. It freaks me out more than it hurts. I have to stay calm so I don't splash water on my halide bulbs too. Thats the hard part. Its like torture training.

Getting bit is a very startling experience. I have a 5 inch red fin compressiceps in one of my freshwater tanks. It will bite when I'm cleaning the tank and getting too close to where it's hiding. They have some decent teeth and will take a little skin if it gets a good bite. It startles me every time....jerk my hand back and splash water all over...as you said, freaks me out more than it hurts. lol

    I feel your pain...literally!
In my current tank, I had a pair of clowns that were downright viscous.  Earlier this year, one decided to carpet surf (I believe, never found him) and the remaining clown has calmed down quite a bit.  She's not looking for affection when I'm on the tank, but leaves me alone for the most part.
In my last tank, I had another pair that liked to bite.  In that setup I had metal halides...and in one instance in the process of yanking my hand out of the tank after being startled, I managed to open up a knuckle on a reflector.

it all falls into the animal conspiracy to stop the urban expansion of man. I have experienced this with many different fish over the years. The easiest thing ive found is to put your your hand into the tank and chase them around for a minute and when they start to attack try to thunk em. You never get em but once they learn you are top dog normally leave you alone.

Sorry Nick. I thunk/thumped mine a few times with a finger. No such luck. She's not scared of me. Just isn't.

I do, however have enough sense not to drag my hands through my 55 gallon tank with 4 5 inch red belly pirahnas. Those do have some teeth. Just never though my sweet little clown would do me any harm. Lesson learned though.

My maroon clown is aggressive too. She's tried to bite me once and missed:) She hates sand and LR rubble in her 'space' so I will pile up the sand and put big pieces of rubble in her space. She works for a couple days getting the rubble and sand moved which tires her. When she begins to recover and bully again, I repeat the same! I'm surprised she has a tail and mouth left :)! Ahhh, the joys of reefkeeping!
