I have a fairly large feather duster - the total worm is probably 6 inches long, roughly. Most of the worm is under the sand, but part of the casing, 1.5 inches or so, sticks out of the sand. My hermits and emerald crab periodically pick at the casing - I don't notice any damage and the feather eventually comes back out after they're done. Is that normal? Are they doing damage? Is it something to be concerned about?

I see my various inhabitants poke at my feather duster quite often. It's more like it happens to be in their way. They are probably just picking at algae or tasty bits that have settled around it. I would still keep an eye on it just in case.
