I'm sick of paying WAY TOO MUCH for those little black media pads that you find in phosban reactors, calc reactors, etc.

The pads seem to be sturdier than normal blue filter floss pads. I tried cutting circles last night from the blue pads and they just didn't work out.

Does anyone know where I can buy bulk black media pads?

I bought some TLF reactors used and the guy sent me some of his own pads that he made and said worked really well for things like carbon and phosban. I have yet to try them, but they look to just be thick felt pads.

I know that Bulk Reef Supply sells replacement pads for their reactors for like $6 a set...but you shouldn't have to change them often...just clean and reuse.

I'm just salty because MRC wants $7.25 EACH for their pads. And my pads are in fact worn out from holding up the weight of the calcium.

I'm not paying $15 for foam pads. I will however probably waste a lot of time looking for them. I'm thinking menards must have something

You should be able to go to a farm supply, hardware store, maybe Earl May, etc. and look in the area where they sell pond supplies. The should have sheets of the porous blue or black plastic filter media. Maybe $5 to $7 a sheet?  Here's an image of what I'm referring to:

The ones that bulk reef supply sells for their reactors actually are attached to the plastic bottom of the reactor media container.

What I have been doing for my BRS dual reactor is taking the Fluval Foam Block and cut them in half, and then cut to shape. It seems to work pretty good, but I do haft to clean them a little more offen.

I found exactly what I needed at Petland (or basically anywhere)

Marineland filter foam. I got two sheets and will cut them to size. I bet I can make 10 disks for a Phosban 150, 5-6 for a Phosban 500, and maybe 6 disks for my CaRx. $10.00

I got the foam for the biggest canister that Marineland makes.
