I was using 200 micron mesh filter sack and I didn't think it was picking up much waste.
So I switched to a 200 micron felt filter sack and it clogged up and restricted my flow to the point of annoyance in less than three days.
I am not sure what to do. What are people using out there?

I'm using the 200 micro felt filter socks and changing them out every 3 days or so. I have 5 of them and once i put the last clean one in I throw the rest of them together into the washer (no detergent) hot/cold, light, sm load. But I only have one drain too.

I have the felt ones as well and they do tend to clog within 2-3 days.....just have several to switch and its not too bad. I wash mine in the washer as well, otherwise I feel like I cannot get them clean enough by hand.

helps to flip them inside out and throw them in the wash everyonce in a while too.

Just think, if they are clogging, they are dong their job. Yes they are more work to switch out every few days, but just think how much more waste you are catching.

IMO the mesh bags are for things like carbon so water flows through, but dont wont let the big particles wash out.

I agree Craig, the felt seem to be doing a better job.

The filter socks screen water coming into a 50 gallon rubbermaid holding reservoir, and I have two skimmers in this tub. I almost feel like I am being too easy on my skimmers!

It may be inconvenient to keep switching out felt socks but you don't want to let a sock sit there for more than 3 days anyways. It doesn't take very long before you're essentially straining your overflow water through a nitrate teabag.

I've been going with an on and off approach with socks. I'll only use one for about 48 hours after I stir things up a bit from maintenance once a week.

Felt is what I use, I got the felt from Hobby Lobby n made my own. If I remember right $8 1hr 10 bags. It was 2 years ago so.
